@busdriver11, really, I don’t think people mind re-advising! We are not that interesting that we have never discussed a topic twice in the oodles of pages there!!
If it seems it moves quickly it’s because:
we have a fair number of regular participating folks - so, DEDICATION.
some of us report our daily exercise as completed - even if it’s just pup walks! Keeps some of us honest.
we LOVE talking and sharing! And plenty of pats on the backs as well.
Pep talks - we all need them at times. We report our failures and roadblocks as well as our successes - we all have them!
Yep, come on over to the D/E thread - I’m pretty new to it, but feel warmly welcomed. And I KNOW I’ve brought up stuff that has been discussed before. But there’s some serious wisdom, experience & support to be found there!
Ok bragging here, I lost 1 lb yesterday by eating less around lunch, mostly snacking, increased walking and gardening work. Just out an about more. Light weeding, washing my hardscape area prepping for furniture delivery. That’s it. My goal is to use this summer and lose the weight closer to the lower limit then the high limit Of my weight. So that’s about 5lbs. Plus taking into the coordination of my sister’s yard will be additional exercise. I have to meet the landscaper, ordering plants, etc…
^^^ What she said. Everybody come on in! We truly learn from everyone and don’t mind backtracking at all. We have been through injuries, illnesses, “falling off the wagon” etc. We are there to support and it is an amazingly un-snarky and positive thread. (we do digress into workout fashion, though)
What abasket, Gertrude, and MOfWC said! Recent case: I asked a question about gels. I’m sure MOfWC posted that info many, many times, but she answered it again without saying “go back and search” - it is like the Retirement thread.
I’m afraid I’m going to ask the same questions that I already asked…and it’s far too difficult to go through them and find the answers. Of course, people will have forgotten that I asked them by now!
You only lose ONE point by touching the ground with a single body part, like a hand. Today, I’m finding it MUCH easier to rise using one hand, which gives me 9 points instead of 10. That works fine for me and for H. We can both get seated with no problem but find it so much easier to rise with the aid of one hand on the ground. My muscles used for sitting and rising are getting sore and tired.
One important exercise is sitting and standing over and over, with no hands. Use a weight bench at the gym; they are the right height. Then, once you can do with both legs easily, do it with just one leg. When that gets easy, hold a weight while you do it.
I figure if I keep doing that exercise, when I’m 90 I’ll be able to get off the toilet without help. And I’m sure my children will appreciate that.
^^^ That! You will also be able to get up and out of your little convertible on your own and use the facilities while traveling without touching down (if there is even a place to touch down)
@Oregon101 start with a back lunge. If your plant leg is your left then brace your left hand on your left thigh then lunge back with the right leg (big lunge reaching way back). With a flat back use your right hand to reach for the floor where your right foot was. Come up in one quick motion using your butt and hamstrings (heel planted) on your left leg and pushing off on your left thigh with your hand. When you can do this easily you have perfected the moves necessary to get up off the floor. Tight hip flexers can prevent you from getting that leg forward (when you start on the floor) so that can be another issue.
@saintfan, what position are you starting from on your description above? I feel like there’s a club I’m not part of, so I’ve got to figure this out Is it to be able to get off the floor?
