Applying to a few US schools for Fall '08. Definitely going to go there …

My problem is, that my first name is really tough to pronounce for Americans(have been to the US before)… so I was planning on giving meself an “american” middle name.

Why don’t you just give yourself an American nick name? Just introduce yourself as “My name is axdfsfgjrtgn but you can call me Joe” or whatever. My college’s online system even let’s us enter a “preferred name” which can be different from our real name and professors will see both names on their class lists.

I don’t think GIVING yourself an American middle name would work, unless you want to change your name officially. If the visa documents you get from your college do not match the name in your passport, you will have trouble getting a visa and later entering the country.
