Middlebury College Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

As a parent of recent Midd graduate - I recommend that any family whose kid was accepted and will attend Middlebury start booking accomodations for every family weekend that they wish to attend from the coming one until graduation, as well as booking accomodations for drop-off weekends, and if you want to pick them up, book accommodations for that period.

If you can book accommodations for graduation weekend, do that as well.

They run out very quickly .

However, family weekends are the worst since that is when the leaf-peepers start descending on Vermont in droves.

I booked for Sunday night as well!

Do accommodations book that far out?! Like years in advance?

Some do, though most B&B’s don’t. Check how far out they open reservations, and set a reminder on your calendar. Some will email you when reservations open if you contact them.

Middlebury just released a few snippets of info regarding the Class of 2028:

12,540 total applicants
425 admitted in ED 1
Unknown how many admitted ED 2.

Have you found out when ED2 results for Midd will come out? Wesleyan is on Sat
and they came out the same day for ED1 though I have no idea if that is relevant! Crossing my fingers for you!

From what I gather from Reddit, they were released on Feb 3. I’m not an applicant, but I wish everyone who is a good outcome!

Oh ok

Where is the source for this? I am confused! I thought the ED rate for Midd was much higher. My daughter (who got in ED1) and I are now in shock.

The 12k is total all applicants. They didn’t say how many applied ED1. Interesting article though!

Right ok I see

Middlebury appears to have changed their admissions approach over the last two cycles, giving significant preference to ED applicants. Perhaps this is in response to over-enrollment in the previous few years, requiring them to take extreme measures, like offering students $10K to take a semester off.

Early decision is one of the most effective ways to manage enrollment. Last year, they accepted 516 ED 1 and 2. If they took 425 in ED 1, and let’s say they take 100 in ED 2, that leaves 175 spots for RD applicants, since the target is generally 600 for spring and 100 for Feb. The word is getting out that if you want Midd, apply ED.

In the 2022-23 CDS, they had 12952 applicants, admitted 439 ED, admitted another 1205 RD, and that yielded 639 total.

The yield out of RD admits is by implication fairly low.

I see. I guess they don’t release the number of students who applied ED for each year? Just how many are accepted? I am now curious how man of the 12k applied ED

Assuming their RD yield is similar to the past, they will need to admit around 1050 RD to get those 175 RD enrollees.

The total who applied both ED1 and ED2 is in the CDS, but at a lag.

Sorry what is the CDS? I don’t have all the lingo down!

No problem, that is their Common Data Set:

Section C has admissions information, and C21 has ED information.

Be warned once you start going down the CDS rabbit hole you can’t go back :joy:
