I’m a freshman in HS so I feel like every little thing I do contributes to college, which is really stressful. Like one bad quiz grade will hurt my chances of getting into a college…It’s a bit of a paranoia, actually. So now I feel like midterms are REALLY important…destressers? And I want to be an english major w/ pre-law, so what ECs to do? What classes to take? What things in HS should I do to help me with that path? Thanks so much and good luck on YOUR midterms:)

Calm down. You’re a freshman. One or two B’s won’t hurt you at all. Also, it’s alright if you don’t do so well on a quiz or test. It happens to everyone. Just make sure that your final grade in your classes are A’s and you should be fine. Colleges don’t look at individual assignments (like quizzes, tests, homework, etc) they usually only look at final grades and cumulative averages.

As for the ECs, I’d just suggest doing what you enjoy. Colleges like to see passion so if you pursue an activity that you really enjoy and have an interest in, they will take notice and it’ll strengthen your application. Try not to pad your college application with a grocery list of ECs as that doesn’t really show commitment. Don’t get me wrong though, you’re in high school now. You should open up and be willing to try new things. You’ll never know what you like till you try it :P

Study for stuff ahead of time. Do a half hour here, an hour there. Relax the night before the exam. Worrying and being nervous doesn’t improve your performance, it just tortures you. So chill. If you do the work in your classes, you’ll do fine over the long term. You might not get 100% on every assignment, but you will get an A for the year.

ahh, freshman year…

don’t even bother stressing about college now. Just find what your good at and pursue it. You’ll not only be doing well for college applications, but you will also have a good experience and fun (which is more important). High school shouldn’t be geared toward college applications. If you do what you enjoy and follow through on a passion, you’ll be pleasantly surprised come fall of senior year.
Focus on learning, not on grades. It makes everything so much less stressful.

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN @.@

I’m a freshie too… and sometimes I think about that stuff too. It used to be really bad, but I realized that they only look at your final grade that year, so if you make low A’s first semester, high A’s 2nd semester, it should round out to a solid A…

good luck!

You’re a freshman! You haven’t even finished your second semester yet! Don’t worry about the small things. You don’t need to “stress” about your grades really until Junior year when you’re applying taking the SAT and getting ready to apply to universities. Calm down. Do yourself a favor and relax. It’ll help you in the long run. Just enjoy high school and do your best. :)
