“UVa has the 2nd highest number of black students among all public schools in the country (8.5%) along w/ Florida. UNC has the most w/ 11%, so UVa isn’t desperate (as you like to say) for minority students.”

Um, that’s not true. In my own state:
University of Maryland - College Park: 13% African American
University of Maryland - Baltimore County: 10% African American
University of Maryland - Eastern Shore: 87% African American
University of Maryland - University College: 35% African American

I’m sure there are more in other states. (By the way, UVA is 10% African American according to College Board.)

average class size range is pretty huge…while i guess the actual average class size they list is like 20-29, im right now in 1 (actual, not discussion) class thats under 20. the rest are 100+. but my discussion sections are all pretty much locked at 20.

there is more work, granted, i didn’t do much in highschool. however, i find in most classes (atleast history classes i’ve taken), you can get a B /B-simply by studying your ass off for about 6 days of the semester, and you can blow off the rest of the work…which is what i did while i was pledging. You have to do a fair to substantial amount of work to get A’s I find.

sororities are night and day from each other. perhaps be more specific.

btw, i’m sure globalist was referring to only tier 1 schools, right glob? ;-)

I think it can be assumed, klp, because I think he’s getting his data from a JBHE publication. Oh, and UMD if a fine school, but at #55, it’s not in the range of what would be considered “top” schools.

do regular decision apps. usually not hear until April 1 online? Are there sororities that like to have fun and go out but are not huge partiers?

“I think it can be assumed, klp, because I think he’s getting his data from a JBHE publication. Oh, and UMD if a fine school, but at #55, it’s not in the range of what would be considered “top” schools.”

im not familiar with every sorat, but the closest one to what you want seems to be kd. they’re cool, but i never think of them as the biggest partiers. keep in mind though everyone will have a contingent of hardcore partiers, as almost every sorat has over 100 people.

btw, i was just playing about the tier one comment, believe me, no one really thinks less of those rankings than me.

klp, I’m not going to argue this one with you. UMD is a fine school, but it’s not UVA. The rankings you posted are for PUBLIC schools, not overall. Overall, UVA is a top 20 school. UMD isn’t even top 50.

Ashley, don’t make any judgements on the party scene at UVA until you get here. There’s nothing wrong with going out on weekends and having a good time - you’ll just have to see when you get here.

“klp, I’m not going to argue this one with you. UMD is a fine school, but it’s not UVA. The rankings you posted are for PUBLIC schools, not overall. Overall, UVA is a top 20 school. UMD isn’t even top 50.”

I said it was top 20 public school. Since the guy was comparing minority amounts in PUBLIC schools, this would be relevant. The reason is simple. If you exclude every school below the top 5 public universities, then what meaning does his statistic have? He is saying that UVA has a lot of minorities, compared to other top public schools, but for some reason, he isn’t even including the 18th best public school? Now, that just makes no sense.
