I’m not an expert in academia but as a lay person, the fact that a clearly drunk professor wasn’t discretely hustled out of the room by other faculty speaks volumes about the department. It implies that other faculty were oblivious, cowed, or indifferent. Not people you want as mentors. I’m glad this wasn’t her top choice.
I would advise OP’s D to network with other women in physics. This will be handy for professional purposes, as well as a sounding board for what to do in these situations.
Update from the OP - my kid told me today that after the visit she got a survey from the school asking how they could improve their visit process. She told this story on the form (didn’t know the prof’s name, as he was not wearing his name tag). Also complimented them on what went well, as some of the visit was quite good compared to other schools. I’m sure that survey result caused some consternation in the department!
