In Fall 2023, I applied for admission to the U of C system for the Fall 2024 semester and was granted acceptance to UCSD, and am now a sophomore there.
However, in the Volunteer/Community service section, I mentioned volunteering in an NGO for 4 hours per week for 40 weeks while in Grade 10 (which was a complete fabrication) and I mentioned this as a big part in one of the application essays as well.
The problem is that my application guide at the time was the best of buddies with me so I sent him my application and essays for review. At that time, I explicitly told him about this, but he rather encouraged me saying that it is very common to embellish one’s achievements in college applications, so we let the matter rest there.
Fast forward to the present, and unfortunately now a personal issue has arisen between us where he has already betrayed my trust and I think it is certain that he will also report me to the University of California system for lying on my application.
I accept that I effed up. But right now, I am very worried about what repercussions will I face on this issue and how can I save myself?
Please don’t be judgemental and guide me on the steps I should take to protect my future.
