From the beginning I thought Steve Harvey was horrible and creepy as a host. I used to love this show, but it has lost class over the decades…no small part to losing a major network sponsor. I’m not a prude by any means, but many of the evening gowns and swimsuits are just plain sleazy looking for a pageant stage. Sure, it’s a beauty contest, but now it’s like a T&A contest, to the delight of my DH! LOl. Anyway, I feel so bad for the contestants, humiliating for the one and the other lost her moment.
Honest mistake but an absolutely mortifying experience for Miss Columbia. And the winner ended up looking like she felt like she shouldn’t step forward to claim her crown.
Extremely awkward for everyone.
I wonder if the pageant is going to offer Miss C any money for compensation for embarrassment?
I didn’t watch so don’t really know what either contestants command of the English language is, but wonder what they imagined was happening. I am sure they both were terribly confused.
It’s 9:37 am and I’m just hearing about both things - Vegas and Universe - not everyone tunes into news sources first thing in the morning!
We stopped the channel a few times at Miss Universe last night and watched a few minutes and moved on each time - I told my D at one point, “Steve Harvey” seems like a really odd choice for this gig. Looks like he won’t get the gig again!
I have never liked Steve Harvey. Twitter was harsh. What a colossal mistake.
I know some think they should have waited until the show was off the air to avoid having Miss Colombia stripped of her crown right on stage, but I think it probably was the smartest thing to do. If anyone had left the stage some would have charged that the cards had been changed, etc. As ugly as it was, I think they handled it as well as they could.
I hang my feminist head in shame, but I love a good beauty pageant.
I think they should have gone black after the announcement was made, the card was shown and the before crown was taken off her head, with all the other stuff. They could have just done that in front of the audience. Miss Colombia was gorgeous, she reminded me of Sofia Vergara.
1- Miss USA did an incredible job of trying to explain the situation. Kudos to her.
2- That person in the black dress who does the crowning- how awkward! You could tell that she did not want to be back up there. And then to have her take the crown? I’m sure that’s not at all what she wanted to do.
I agree, conmama. They should have somehow pulled Colombia aside and taken the crown off elsewhere. There’s no reason for that to be televised. Plus, Miss Philippines didn’t get her moment like she should have.
Also, did anyone see the tweet? (Steve Harvey’s)
How many times can one royally screw up in one night?
