@west2east20 MIT’s Regular Decision dead line was January 1st. If your D applied on December 23 there is no “lateness of her app”. Her application is considered as anyone’s else. Interviews have to do with alumni availability.
Has anyone who apply in RD round got an interview from MIT?
Hi Cly, will be interested in the responses, as I posted above, my D has not been contacted yet, probably too late and interview will be waived. I wonder if we need to do anything to get a formal waiver?
@west2east20
Hello. Truth to be told, I submitted my application on the deadline and I’m worried that my late submission will affect my interview opportunity. But I think maybe we should just wait for MIT to contact us since interview availability really has to do with alumni availability (BTW, I’m an international applicant).
Do you know when MIT will send interview invitations to RD applicants? Will we get the invitations in February?
Thanks
I’m not sure if Intl applicants are different, but I read that MIT does their interviews in January and if we haven’t heard yet, we should assume they couldn’t arrange it and it will be waived.
My son submitted RD in Nov and got interview email 19 days later in Dec. We are domestic.
FYI: Interview reports are due in from the alumni interviewers by Feb 2.
My son (RD applicant, submitted mid December) was contacted by an interviewer a few hours ago. She provided a meeting in person option or a Skype type interview this week. He went for the in person option on February 1.
@ridingthewave Thanks for that update. I suppose we have one week left to see if we are contacted.
@west2east20 I just sent MIT an email and told them that I’m willing to travel to areas where alumni resource is abundant to have an interview. I don’t know whether I will get an interview. Still waiting for the interview…
@Cly2019 Hope you get one, keep us posted!
@west2east20 They just sent me an email and told me that an interview is not guaranteed even if I would like to travel to areas where alumni resource is abundant. However, they told me that “Educational Counselors are busy reaching out to students to schedule interviews through early February.” I don’t know if that means we still have chances to get interviews or not. Hopefully, we can get interviews.
My son applied RD and submitted his application on last day of Dec. He recently had his interview with a local alumni.
Hmm, I wonder how many are accepted who were not offered an interview.
@HPuck35 any sense whether interviews at MIT truly carry weight? I know the CDS lists interview as “important” but do you buy that? Have you noticed a correlation between your rating of students and their admission decisions?
I don’t know about MIT, but I was accepted to Ivies (Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth), Stanford, and Chicago without interviews. I only had interviews for Upenn (was accepted) and Princeton (deferred and then rejected)
Quora has a recent question Does everyone who applied get an interview at MIT and a couple interviewers responded as long as you apply, yes you get an interview. My D was never contacted by MIT and has the chops to make it (4.0 IB Diploma, 36 ACT, two summers research using differential equations and Great ECs). We never bothered to contact them. It’s too late now. Oh well.
@west2east20 I wouldn’t despair just yet.
Info re interviews from the MIT website:
“At MIT we don’t just want to see how you look on paper; we’re interested in the whole person. That’s why, whenever possible, we offer an interview with a member of the MIT Educational Council, a network of over 5,000 MIT graduates around the world who volunteer to meet with applicants in their home area.”
“After you submit your application, you may be contacted by an Educational Counselor (EC) if there’s one available. ECs will typically use the email address you provided on your application to contact you, so please monitor your inbox and respond promptly.”
“Most Regular Action interviews will take place in January. If we are unable to offer you an interview, it will be waived and your application will not be adversely affected.”
@oaksinfog Thanks, I have studied this page on MITs site, which is why my D has not wanted to contact them. That is her decision. She sent her updated report card, so she has done all she can for now.
DS hasn’t yet been contacted for an interview.
