MIT 2024 Discussion Forum

@OverseasFather ditto for my D with MIT, Yale too, all other Ivy interviews are done as of today

@west2east20 We are concerned because there are seven colleges we still haven’t heard from. Princeton and Dartmouth are done, but we haven’t yet been contacted by Brown, Duke, Harvard, MIT, Northwestern, Penn, Yale. Don’t know what to make of it. Considering that it’s already February 10, I think it might now be too late.

@OverseasFather Are you in a big domestic city?

Curiousme2: Sorry about the delay in responding.

EC’s only know about the admission results forthose students assigned to them. That and with such a low admit rate, it is impossible to know whether the interview carries much weight. You have to believe what MIT says.

@west2east20 We are in a big international city.

Just spoke to admissions at MIT and they said at this point all interviews are done.

Is being invited to an interview considered a “good indicator” that the appicant is being seriously considered? Or is an interview offered to every applicant regardless of how strong or weak their application is.

It is offered to every applicant, assuming an interviewer is available.

@HeHoo read nothing into getting an interview or not. The schools try to offer interviews to all applicants, but sometimes it doesn’t happen. Interviews at MIT (and other highly selective schools) are done by alumni and rarely have any impact on admission decisions.

Thank you for the reply and info!

Has anyone else had a delay in their mid-year report posting? My son posted on the due date and it’s still not showing up in his portal.

@ruediww The mid-year grades are reported by the student in the FUN form and, upon receipt, that form shows as a checked off item in your son’s MIT portal. The mid-year grade report as a stand alone item is not tracked on the MIT checklist (even if your son’s school also submitted it as a separate item)since they do not require an official form unless the student is accepted and then they will verify the reported grades. My son submitted the FUN form prior to the due date and it showed as checked off by the next day - his GC also sent the official midterm grades thru naviance (but that, while received and seen by MIT, is not formally tracked.)

Hi guys! Does anyone know how many international students MIT has accepted EA?
It sorta seems like they’ve deferred all internationals…

Two weeks to go. Not counting my eggs on this one, D never got an interview and I do think it matters for MIT. She has all the other stats and ECs so it’s kind of sad. But it’s great to get a few decisions over with! Good luck everyone!

@west2east20 Here is an earlier discussion on the importance of alumni interview with MIT. The final two weeks seem so long. Good luck everyone.

For EA, decisions were released Saturday, Dec 14. The email went out giving the date and time a little over a week prior, on that Thursday. So, assuming they follow the same idea, we might get an email on Thursday officially giving us the date and time!

?

Regular decisions traditionally come out on 3/14 (Pi Day) at 6:28 pm (Tau Time).

@NoVaRat right but we should get an email telling us this on Thursday, I believe

Re: post #93:

ALL internationals were not deferred!! I interviewed an international student who is in high school in the US. He was admitted EA.

Be careful about drawing conclusions based on limited data. With such a low admit rate, it is easy to go and ask a bunch of applicants before you find one who was admitted. Based on my experience this EA cycle, 100% of the international students were admitted. But that statistic is total hogwash.
