I have a quick/urgent question and since it seems that you are online, hopefully you can answer it for me! If I want to update my MIT app EA, should I just fax a letter to 617-258-8304? Is there any specific format for the update?

It’s nothing personal, I am just anxious about my application I guess. It just seems like QB applicants get an extra chance at admission. I am not an admissions officer, but it also seems to me that they should just be put into the regular EA pool and receive decisions at the same time the rest of us do.

Story of my life, it seems to me that it may be too late for that. If I am not mistaken they are usually starting selection committee around this time, and if you are deferred from EA you can send it in for RA. *I am not affiliated with MIT, and I am not sure about any of this.

Would really help if someone could answer my question as I’m really stressing about this. My school requires 4 credits of math to graduate, but the highest level of math offered is AP Calculus. I only have 3 credits, but since I have already taken calculus my school waived the requirement for the fourth credit. The problem is that on my transcript, it shows me as having 3 credits when the requirement is 4. My counselor says that the college will automatically assume that I have already taken the highest level of math offered, but I recently spoke to someone who told me that I should send an official statement from the school testifying this. Will this be necessary?

I wouldn’t think so. If it really bothers you I would just explain it in the section under your self-reported coursework where it says to list special situations about grades.

As far as QB, EA, RD or WL, once you get to MIT, it is what you make of it. I am in a HASS group project and we have one of each. The QB was the first student to get into the MIT Class of 2014, and me, as a WL student one of the last, yet we both work hard and have the same dreams and aspirations. Just three years earlier, I was the #1 pick going into my school and I was told a #1 going in had never come out #1. It is interesting to start out ‘last’ this time and look at the field before me. My classmates are so talented, so driven, and so awesome. Our future is in good hands.

Like I said before, don’t let being unmatched, deferred or wait listed get you down. 2010 has been an amazing year and I would not trade the experience for anything. Take every step, learn something from it, and move forward.

There’s no specific format for updates, but you should make sure to include enough information that the update can be matched to your application (your full name and birthdate, e.g.). Faxing a letter is fine.

At this point, I don’t believe updates will be seen in time for EA, but there’s no harm in sending something. It can always be used for RD if you are deferred.

So I serve on the regional board for FBLA as a VP Assistant. However, I accidentally wrote, “Mountain Plains Region VP’s Assistant” instead of National VP’s Assistant–Mountain Plains Region. Because FBLA Regions don’t have presidents, and the Vice Presidents are actually national officers, i’m worried the way I wrote it came off differently then what I intended. What do you think? I can’t believe I missed this! Haha

@lala, If you wrote it as an award, did you check the box indicating that it was a “national” award? If you wrote it as an activity, I’m sure they’ll figure it out in the description. Either way they sound impressive.

p.s. Just a friendly tip, don’t put such confidential information on College Confidential (no pun). It’s very restrictive and reveals more than you think…

And I’m back from the 2010 Princeton Model UN Conference… what a wild four days. I actually managed to forget about college. I was just a delegate in the General Assembly’s Disarmament and Security Committee fighting for the installation of missile defense systems in Eastern Europe… anyway. Honorable mention in hand, I return to the real world.

You guys still stressing? Rhetorical question.

Nothing for it but to keep the faith and to keep on living. For me, that means finally doing this Physics B assignment… xD

You know what? I’m done being scared. I’m just gonna concentrate on schoolwork, social stuff, etc. until I find word of a decision. There’s really no point in stressing.

I am so busy with schoolwork and Academic Decathlon that I don’t have time to worry that much. The weekends are when I actually have time to worry. Any other academic decathletes out there?

Yea, haha, I’m captain of my school’s team. We had regionals two weeks ago or so. We got 4th and I got honorable mention in music as an A starter. I was pretty happy, considering I don’t even play an instrument and can’t sing for my life I haven’t had too much going on lately other than homework, so I’ve recently started thinking about it more, which sucks, haha.

We don’t have team captains for any academic teams. Our regionals are in January. We just started working three weeks ago because of spell bowl. We work extremely hard to catch up and win though. We have won our state championship for 13 years in a row. Nationals is awesome!
