This is the official discussion thread for MIT Class of 2028 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.
Has anyone received an invitation for interview ?
yes, my daughter just got invited for interview
My DS completed his interview last night. He had so much fun
Generally, the ECs get the applicant info to contact the applicants within a week after the application is submitted. So, applicants should be getting emails, typically, for interviews right about now. Check your spam folder as I’ve had several applicants over the years have my emails to them go right to the spam folder. I don’t use any kind of email address that shows it would be from an MIT interviewer. I do use MIT and interview in the email title. I’m sure at least some other ECs do it similar to me.
Still no interview: Do they send out invite in a batch or I am pretty much done? Thanks
Are you a domestic or international applicant? It can affect your interview. In recent years, MIT has been able to interview all the domestic applicants but not all the international ones. However, sometimes an interviewer is assigned later rather than soon after your application was submitted.
Information is always the key to resolving things. Unless I am the one you are assigned to, which I am not, I don’t have the information you want. The best thing to do is go to the source and call the MIT admissions office and ask if you have been assigned to an interviewer. If not, then it would be acceptable to ask whether you will be.
Domestic
Wouldn’t it be a bit “out of taste” to ask MIT admissions office if I have been assigned to an interviewer ?
That’s an odd phrase to me, “out of taste”.
But, it would be reasonable to ask about an interview after this amount of time since applications were due. I get my list of applicants to interview about 2 or 3 days after applications are submitted.
Is interview selective or random? Domestic student with 3.95 unweighted GPA /1550 SAT. No interview offered yet? Is there any cutoff for interviews?
Interviews are based on availability of the interviewers. Some areas have more applicants than the number of interviewers can handle.
If you are not offered an interview, MIT says it will not affect their admission decision.
Don’t worry. Per MIT:
“If we are unable to offer you an interview, it will be waived and your application will not be adversely affected.”
Perhaps you live in an area where there aren’t enough ECs available?
My DS got his interview a week ago. It went well. But his ED interview at Duke in November were just as good as this one. NMSF, invitation for presidential scholars, 4.0/4.5 GPA and 1580. Got deferred by Duke. Yesterday I read this article, now I think I know why. Duke to pay $24 million to settle financial aid antitrust lawsuit, denies allegations of wrongdoing - The Chronicle.
My son didn’t get an interview yet. Any idea until when they send out invitations for RD?
They have just started sending invitations. They send if there are alumni in the area.
Thanks
My DS was contacted for an interview last week, but the initial date/time that the interviewer offered didn’t work. So the interview proposed another day, which will be on 2/20, roughly 3 weeks before the decision day. Would it be too late for an interview? Please share your thoughts. Thanks!
I don’t think it is too late. I read somewhere that they have till Feb 25 for the interviews.
