Thank you for the information. Would you mind to share where to find the reference for the deadline?
I will look it up and send you the link.
Thank you so much!!
I could not find the link till now. In the meantime I got this link.
So I think try to do it before.
But it wonât count against him if MIT EC canât find a suitable time for the interview.
This is what I found in the MIT page:
What is the interview deadline?
There isnât a specific deadline for the interview. Students submit their application by November 1 for Early Action or January 4 for Regular Action.
After you submit your application, you may be contacted by an Educational Counselor (EC) if thereâs one available. ECs will typically use the email address you provided on your application to contact you, so please monitor your inbox and respond promptly. If we are unable to offer you an interview, it will be waived and your application will not be adversely affected.
Thank you so much for searching for information for me. With the current interviewer assigned, there is zero chance of having the interview done before 02/09 because the interviewer has no available dates until 2/20 due to his current work commitments, plus 2-3 weeks of vacation in between. Any advice?
I researched this situation and some students were in the same situation last year. They were interviewed almost a week before the decision day. So the decision was mostly likely reached before the interview. Even then, accepting to have the interview factored positively to the application. Only if you refuse to have the interview it reflects bad. As long as you agree to have the interview, I think it looks good. Anyway interview is not done when they do not have EC in the area. So they can very well decide without the interview. So please do not worry at all and do it whenever it works out for both you and the EC. If you want me to send the link for the late MIT interviews done last year or the year before, I can send the link.
Thank you so much again!! Could you please send us the link when you have a chance?
When you read this link, one of the accepted student, who is at MIT now, says that he had an interview quite late and still got accepted.

Interviewers were asked to have their interview reports submitted by February 6. Need some time to write the report, so most interviews should be completed a few days before February 6.
However, in the past, the âoverflowâ or applicants who werenât assigned to an interviewer initially may be picked up by another one who decides to conduct a few more. These applicants / interviewers are typically allowed to submit their reports late and sometimes quite late.
So still keep checking your email, including the dreaded spam folder. I have had applicants that I have sent an email to complain that they werenât contacted, and it was sitting in their spam folder.
Thank you very much for the kind explanation from an authentic interviewer. This should make ash26 feel at ease.
Thank you, anaray and HPuck35, for your kind explanations!! My DS was initially contacted around 1/20 for an interview during school hours, with a proposed date of 1/30. When he requested an alternative date, the interviewer offered 2/20, which we felt would be too late. Right after, we inquired about keeping the original interview date of 1/30, but two or three days later, the interviewer responded that he wouldnât be available anymore.
Thank you so much for sharing the information.
Itâs odd. If the interviewers have a deadline for report submission by 02/06, why are they offering interviews much later than that? Should they consider dropping the interviews and allowing other interviewers to take over? Our interviewer also mentioned that he would be on vacation for 2-3 weeks in the middle of February.
D24 got her interview request this weekend.
This is fantastic news considering the interviews are so selective.
Interviews are selective, I thought they offered it to everyone?
Not everybody gets one. Therefore theyâre selective.
Is selectivity the only possible explanation for uneven distribution?
There are three levels across schools. Now, this is a general observation. Please feel free to add/correct.
- Offered where there is availability
- Spreading limited availability through selectivity
- Need for more information
