MIT Class of 2028 Waitlist Thread

Decisions last year for MIT (and other schools like Harvard) were released on May 15th

If they really do come out May 15th, then we have 10 days until decisions come out.

According to widespread speculation, the number of cross admits across HYPSM and comparable universities were much higher this year (since SCOTUS outlawed the usage of race in admissions, they’ve gone to rural applicants to maintain diversity, cross-admitting many students in the process). If this is true, MIT’s yield rate will be quite a bit lower this year. Keep your hopes up, my fellow waitlistees.

Interesting. Where do you see this speculation?

I read it on the Internet. So it must be true

I called it “speculation” for a reason.

Actually, without source, you said “widespread speculation.”:roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

Let the poor man cope.

I was referring the “waitlists -will there be lots of movement this year” and reddit posts I saw. Regardless of how credible those sources are, they still count as speculation.

I am predicting waitlist movement this year. In recent years, the have notified nobody is getting off the waitlist around May 10-ish. But when they are taking people off the waitlist, it is May 13th-May 18th. It kind of makes sense, because if they are seriously planning on taking people off the waitlist, they’d do a more thorough review of everyone’s application.

I heard from a parent (and I don’t know/can’t find a corroborating source) that MIT plans to pull from their waitlist later than normal this year due to FAFSA delays. Has anyone else heard anything similar? Love speculation without data. Very un-MIT, lol.

MIT uses CSS profile, so they don’t depend on the delayed FAFSA to make aid decisions.
So I don’t think FAFSA-delay is the whole reason why Waitlist decision may be later.

(corrected my response,
which was based on your speculation from another parent)

Interesting. Have you also heard that MIT’s waitlist decisions will be made later than normal this year?

Sorry, no, I haven’t heard anything about waitlists.
My son is MIT '26, so I’m out of the admissions loop.

Posted. Rejected.

Same :-1:t3:

I’m gonna say to my fellow rejectees that your true character is not defined by what school you go to, but how you persevere after your rejections. The worst we can do is to sink into anger and dejection, constantly asking ourselves why we weren’t admitted, why we had been on the cusp of our dreams only to have them crushed after so long. This is a test of patience, and we should be thankful for what we have been given–a chance to be hopeful and a chance to define us through our dreams.

It is time to move on and chase our next dream.

Yield was really high this year.

“A small number” was the official phrase.

How many of the waitlistees got off?
