MIT Class of 2030 Official RD Thread

This is the official discussion thread for MIT Class of 2030 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.

No posts in this thread yet! I will go first.

S26 had the MIT interview (Southern California) last Saturday. He really enjoyed the wide ranging conversation - over 2 hours- and for the first time ever he feels that MIT would be a good fit for him. He didn’t share any more details. So, now the wait for the lottery outcome :joy: with a spark of hope and excitement.

Anyone else got the interview? How was your experience?

We never received an invitation for an interview. Do most applicants get an option for interviews?

My understanding is that many do get interview based on the availability of the alumni in the area. However, some students are accepted without interview as well.

Where are you located? Internationals can be somewhat problematical due to the number (i.e. lack) of alumni interviewers available. The same can be true for some areas within the US. If you were never offered an interview, it is not supposed to hurt your application.

But, do check your spam folder. I do interviews and sometimes have to call the student as my email went straight to their spam folder and they don’t see it.

Check the status on your application. I don’t know if it shows, but I have to report my progress contacting and interviewing applicants. I note if I am unable to get a response from the applicant.

All this is moot however, as interview reports were due quite a while ago.

Thanks for the responses - I assumed that interviews would be done virtually so location wouldn’t matter. In any case, we are a few hours from finding out the decision - nothing left to do now!

Some interviews are done virtually. But the contact from the interviewer is still usually via email.

i got an interview as well and i throughly enjoyed it! my interviewer was wonderful and we had a great discussion. i’ve fell in love with the school after visiting it’s campus, too. let’s see if my heart gets broken today…

MIT RD Class of 2030 Results Survey:

This form is for tracking decision results, so it’s all centralized for future students. If you could fill this out once you get your decision, that would be very appreciated!

You can see all other people’s individual responses in the links above, along with overall form statistics (such as what percent got accepted).

rejected. it is MIT after all. i had some hope, but it makes complete sense. just glad that i’m going to a college at the very least.

Sorry you were not offered admission! MIT is a great opportunity.

HOWEVER: As I have said before, there are many other great colleges out there. To a large extent, your college experience is what you, the student, makes of it. I know MIT students that just attended classes for the most part and didn’t take advantage of the opportunity presented to them. While people I’ve worked with from other colleges took every advantage of what their schools offered. You can guess who became the better engineers!!

I’ve worked with engineers from just about every engineering college you could name. Some are great engineers, some not. What you put into it matters, not the college you attended.

Denied, as expected. Still stings but – oh well!

denied as well…similar stats as above 3.99/5.4 GPA, 1560 SATs, lots of APs, good recs, good essays, could not go higher in physics or math classes offered in high school. Disappointed but we knew it would be very difficult on the admissions front. In at other top 10 engineering programs, but this was the desired place to be.

To all those in similar situation, and there are a lot of with over 28,000 applications and 1,300 spots avail (4.6% admin rate), just remember its not the end of their journey in any way - its the beginning of something special just somewhere else. Lots of good future to look forward to with these kids -you have to be special to even have applied with a chance to get in.
