MIT/ engineering schools

Schools like MIT/Cal Tech:

I’m a junior and I just finished 1st semester…

Here’s my stats so far:

My GPA is around 4.7-4.8. Just 1st semester in junior year I recieved a B in English AP 11. Every other classes I recieved A- to A+

Class I have taken and plan to take includes:

AP Program: APUSH, Ap English, AP Music Theory, AP STATS, AP Calculus, AP Gov, AP English 12, Ap Bio, AP French level 5

IB Program: Physics IB, Precal IB, English IB, Theory Of Knowledge, Bilogy IB/AP, French V IB

SAT’s

Recently I recieved a 1930 but recently I’ve been hitting aorund 2020 and I believe I can hit a 2100 in the end.

I plan to take SAT 2’s in physics, math 2 and us history if neccesary…

Extra Ativities:

I am the President of the Science Olympiad at my high school and have been competiting in science Olympiad since 7th grade. I have gone to Nationals 3 times and won numerous medals in engineering events like bridges and etc…

I am also in drumline and will be for 3 years when I graduate.

I am in NHS, CSF, nd numerous other clubs.

I also am in level Advance for PIANO and have been tkaing piano since 1st grade and I particpate int he CM program.

I have 100+ volunteering hours at places such as Ronald Mcdonald house, my church where I work as the sound video person.

MY goal so far:

I would like to go to a school specialized in engineering… major in Aerospace engineering and study Japanese and piano…

ethnicity:

I am Japanese/Korean and I am a female.

MIT and Caltech will be reaches even with a 2100. Aim for some schools where your SAT puts you in the middle 50% of accepted students.

If you can push your SAT to a 2200+, you will have great shots at both MIT and CIT…

Does my B in English affect my chances greatly?

does it? Becasue I heard that if you get any B’s your chances to get i nto Harvard like shcools is lowered…

I am just going to put this out there…

W/R/T Engineering…

If you want to look into Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tn. You might desire to have that down as a safety school on your list. That school would, more or less, pay you to go there…what with your stats and all. They might not have exactly what you would like, but they would really love your stats.

Could someone answer my question about B’s? Becasue I’m worried that it will be the reason why I get rejected from schools like MIT…

No, the bigger weakness will be your SAT scores.

That B won’t hurt you. Raise your SAT score to 2200 or more. Get 750+ on your SAT IIs. Try to distinguish yourself somehow in the sciences/math. Then MIT and Caltech are more reasonable.

What are my chances for University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and standford? or are these schools in the same boat…

Zero chance if you spell it “Standford” on your essay. :)

“stanford”

… sorry…

No worries. I’m just poking fun.

Stanford will be a pretty hefty reach as well. I’d suggest aiming for some schools where you are within the 25th-75th percentile on the SAT.

hey… can you list some schools that are known for Aerospace Engineering? Only ones I can find is MIT and Ann Arbor…

Sure can.

University of Maryland
Texas A&M
Washington University in St. Louis
UT-Austin
Boston U
Caltech
Auburn
Clarkson
Case Western Reserve
Florida Tech
Georgia Tech
Ohio State
Penn State
Purdue
Syracuse
Rochester Institute of Tech
Army
Navy
UCLA
Virginia

Hopefully you’ll find one you like. I highlighted many of the big names.

I would say Rochester Institute of Technology would be a better fit, based on your SAT scores and your obvious inclination towards Institutes of Technology. A “B” in an English class shouldn’t matter if you’re going to a science-oriented college, especially with a 4.7-4.8 GPA! Is that cumulative?

It’s definitely still possible to get into MIT or RIT with your high GPA and nice EC’s, but it is a stretch.

Ah I see… my Sat’s are weak points… I just took one in January so I hope I did well…

Also I recieved emails form rochester… when colleges send emails through college board does it mean anything or have any significance?

Thank you for all your help!

Was that URochester or RIT? Both are great schools.

No, there is nothing significant about those emails. Everyone gets them.

RIT

Um yes RIT the one with the tiger mascot. lol

I don’t see RIT on any of the lists… hmm

What lists? Yes, it does offer aerospace engineering. I posted that before.
