MIT MITES @2015

How much does first generation help? How many white people are there? @luckystar888‌

I really hope its earlier for you guys! And yeah, I read somewhere earlier in this thread that you guys heard about the glitches. They accidentally sent a bunch of people rejection letters on accident (and it was truly an accident bc many of the people who got that rejection letter got accepted to MITES, E2@MIT, and MOSTEC).

And first generation definitely helps, but its not a guarantee ticket into the any of the three programs. I saw plenty of white people at E2@MIT. We had 100-ish people go to E2, and MITES has the same number or maybe about 80-ish? I’m not sure, but I can ask my friend to double check. I really think your personality and how you service and contribute to your community has more impact in your application than your race. It’s just a factor, and if you are white, it doesn’t penalize you in anyway.

Also, I got accepted to MIT EA this year! so if you have any questions about that too, just ask. Oh, and I’m Chinese if any of you guys are wondering.

Ayeee, sorry for the late response guys :stuck_out_tongue: The life of a high school senior is busy haha.

Last year’s date was April 25th. I was devastated when I wasn’t accepted to any of the three programs. I worked really hard on my essays, made sure everything was perfect, and it still didn’t work out.
However, I worked full time researching in my local university instead during the summer, and my college application process turned out perfect. The point to this post (aside from telling you the exact date from last year) is that even if you don’t get in, don’t lose hope. This is a competitive program, and you shouldn’t expect to get in. Apply to some backups, look for local opportunities, grow as a person, and you’ll be okay. Feel free to ask about anything, too. Last of all, good luck! You have my best wishes.
Also @luckystar888 love ya and miss ya.

@luckystar888 @Nobody426 Great to have you guys in the thread! Thanks for all of the advice

@luckystar888 Did have college guidance while you were there? Also, do you you think E2@MIT played a role in your acceptance to MIT?

@dallascowboys1‌ You asked about E2; however, you have an equal likelihood of getting into MOSTEC. So here is some info.
I was a member of MOSTEC this past summer. The program has two main phases. There is the project phase (1 month) and enrichment phase (5 months). We had 2 online webinars every week during the enrichment phase, and I believe at least 5 or so were run by an admissions counselor for MIT. She gave us great advice on the application process and was very helpful with any questions we had. We also had a webinar by a past interviewer for MIT that gave us advice on college interviews in general. During our few days at MIT, we attended a college fair that gave out information and guidance on college. I don’t know if MOSTEC played a role in my acceptance to MIT. It did in my acceptance to Caltech though, because I wrote about it for one of the application essays.

@Luckystar888, what was your college list and where else you got accepted, also can you please share your high school highlights and achievements. Thanks

Did you guys get an email from MIT with a link to a survey to help them improve their summer programs?

Yes

@seal16, @Mathmaticious, @luckystar888 and @Nobody426: Did you all get the survey @diddierdrogba got? If so, did you get it while you were waiting on the application decision or after the MITES, E2@MIT and MOSTEC programs were over? I’m asking because my son is an applicant and he got the survey yesterday, and we wonder whether this is part of the application process as well, since he applied for the 2015 programs and decisions have not been made yet. Thanks and best wishes to all who are waiting until April!

@ReminiscingDad‌ got it yesterday too. It is optional per email from MIT.

@ReminiscingDad‌ no it does not affect our MITES application. It said so on either the email or the survey itself.
But im superstitious, so I filled it out hoping God will increase my chances of acceptance haha

The surveys don’t mean anything about the status of your MITES decision. Many people get them last year. Even during the actual program some surveys were sent out to people who did and didn’t get into the programs.

Hey guys, for the people that were in the MITES program can you please tell us what type of grades you got, your test scores, ur essays ect. I just want to know what MITES is looking for. Btw if you don’t feel comfortable saying that info, u don’t have to share it.

For those who got into E2…where do you live? I was just wondering if they would pick people closer to Boston to be in that program since it’s only a week long as opposed to a Californian or someone who lives far from Boston (who would be part of MITES)…or does it just depend on your passion for engineering?

^^I highly doubt they’re choosing applicants based on location. They are picking kids from all over the country. If anything kids outside of Boston may be looked upon in less favor probably due to a high concentration of applicants from Boston applying because MIT is local/familiar.

Did anyone receive an email from MITES with the list of the other programs available?

Yes…also an email invitation to apply to a 12-day free outreach program run by the Math dept.

I wonder if this is a sign of rejection.
