@kittymom1102 Me too. D has great stats, but the only minority status is that she is a girl. Will be waiting on WIT program results now.
Maybe everyone gets that email. Son looks great on paper and he got it also
Is anyone here who did not get a letter from MITES today?
The “funny” part is that S also got another email that appears directed to sponsors of the program, with donation button and everything
Did anyone get that email as well?
I got the letter and it did seem weird but we won’t know until the fat lady sings. I applied to two other programs though so I’m not too nervous.
D got the email and I assumed it was bad news. Why would they send a list of other programs to apply to if they weren’t planning to reject you? She has applied to several other programs as she knew this was a long shot but, at this point, I think she would be reluctant to go back to her teachers for yet another set of recommendations to apply to any of the programs on the list.
I don’t know what is more telling the MIT emails or the silence in this thread.
@everyone
I think you guys are too worried over nothing. They send the email to everyone. Notice how no one here has said that they HAVENT received the program list? Just relax, wait for the results. Nothing else to do.
@usermom, I agree. Son has no desire to try to get more recommendations
I can see why some would see this as a “rejection” in a way. But I do think that MIT is just customary in promoting its plethora of summer opportunities to students. Hey, when you get the email, they at least hope you’ll tell someone else about it, networkinggg for them!
@poisonivy20 Did you get the email?
The email was not promoting only other MIT programs. It was a long list of programs with application deadlines of 3/15 and later which is why it feels like a precursor to a rejection letter. It is not just “oh we are promoting these great programs.” It felt more like “Sorry, we are going to reject you next week but in the meantime, if you can get your act together and go back to your teachers for recommendations, you can apply to these programs with looming deadlines.”
Please, everyone. Debating whether or not the email implies rejection is useless. IMO it gives no such connotation, but again, we cannot predict the future. Let’s just make the most of the letter’s extremely valuable information.
Did anyone else get a second email that sounded more a letter to sponsors? It even had a donation button at the bottom.
It also had a link to apply for a position as a staff for the summer programs.
Did anyone else get that one? My S got that one as well (?)
Not us. D got just the one with the list. MITES is just one of few programs she applied so will see.
@seal16 I think the other email that my S got has to do with my husband’s profession/job.
He is in the STEM fields. I suspected it.
It would make sense for someone like my husband. It was probably sent to my S, so he could bring it to dad’s attention.
You could tell it wasn’t meant for students/applicants. It was meant for people supporting/mentoring young people in the STEMs.
Thanks for answering!
We just need to wait and see. The OEOP ultimately has to reject 90% of its applicants, so they are helping us all by sharing info about other programs. They are trying to promote educational access.
Lol yeah I applied to MITES with that acceptance rate in mind and simultaneously applied to 5 other programs. Idk if I want to apply to some of those programs listed. That’s just another application to do for a program that conflicts withe the schedules of almost all my other programs. We’ll see how motivated I feel…
I got the email too. Well at the bottom it says “you are receiving this message because you have a registered account with MIT.” So perhaps that’s why it was sent to all of us…
