MIT MITES @2015

I thought they said last year they had 3k applicants?

No, that number was closer to 1.5k. The number of applicants and number of completed applications will always be really different. Not everyone that applies will end up finishing an application.

How many are actually academically qualified though?

@ZucchiniSoup I’d say most are. MITES really emphasizes on you as a person rather than the numbers under your name.

I agree with that, however, I do think your academic performance plays a big part. What they really want to see are students who have academic qualifications but stand out personality wise, and have a real passion for something

So, did we agree on what’s the most probable date for results? And what do you guys want to major in?

No idea for results but it’s probably gonna be late April because of all of the applicants. As for my major, I want to major in Math, minor in Econ and hopefully go to Ph.D program in either Math or Econ. I’m really hoping i get into this program but my essays weren’t very good.

I have been following these threads for a while, I never bothered to make an account until today. I am super nervous for my results! I felt that me essays and ec’s were strong, but my test scores were not. So I am concerned about that, and wish us all luck!

What’s considered strong ECs?

Yea I have sick ECs, essays and recs but my test scores back then sucked. I got a 2070 in January and a 2290 in March.

I personally think there’s a variety of ways to have strong ECs, but what they want is extreme passion for one specific thing rather than perfunctorily participating in a lot of after school activities. I think the latter is preferable because it shows all-around character but admissions officers seem to prefer the former.

Is “late April” before or after April 20th?

What are examples of strong ECs?

ugh I wish I could have sent in my March SAT scores. I sent them my 227 from the PSAT but I just got a 2340 in March.

So are results probably coming out this week? Did anyone else here get rejected from SSP but still have a tiny bit of hope for MITES? haha

hmmm my portal page has changed… it doesn’t show all the elements of my application anymore… I bet they are getting ready to release decisions soon… good luck everybody!

@hershey3329 I had way more hope for SSP than MITES but oh well… haha at a certain point it almost comes down to luck anyway

Decisions day is at east 18 days away  we know THAT for sure! lol

@Iamquiteloud Where are you getting that from?

^ I think she meant bc in about 18 days April will be over. Yayyy!

So ready for the end of April bc the college classes have been killing me and my last final exam is May 1 so woohoo!

Quick question…let’s say I was accepted to mites (which I highly doubt lol) but I deny the request. Will they give the spot to a wait listed person? Do they even wait list?

Btw, the other summer program I am doing gives us a stipend and me and my family could use the $ which is why I asked those questions above…

@lilmonet1 MITES has no waitlist. If a person drops their spot, the spot is lost.
