They send you a plane ticket and you go there for a few days.

Also, in reference to your previous comment, people who aren’t minorities can still get into MITES.

for non-minorities, do they have a much higher standard for admission? like, you have to be a super genious to compete with other candidates from minority background?

I don’t think there is a double standard with the admissions. The minority perspective comes in as they try to prepare a balanced group of students.

I know that. It’s like how people of other races can still go to HBCUs. But there’s the idea that they cater to one race. Whenever I or my sister say this, my brother and oldest sister say, “Well, look at the demographics of the colleges you’re considering. Don’t they cater to a certain race as well?” And they’re sort of right but I feel like I’m sort of right too.
I sort of think about it as MITES vs. RSI and I have the idea that maybe they created MITES because they thought not that many URMs could get into RSI and I feel that by going to it I’d be agreeing with them.
I don’t think I’m explaining this very well.

In all honesty, the goals of the programs are slightly different: RSI is focused towards are research objective (e.g. along the lines of Cornell NBTC), while MITES is focused on a learning objective.

nobody gets on this thread anymore… I miss all of you who posted in this thread earlier.

me too it used to be interesting, then it just died off…

haha yeah after everyone found out if they got in or not. I come here occasionally to see if there is a spark conversation. So are you guys excited to go to Mites. I’m still trying to find out if I got accepted to the other Summer programs that I applied to. But the other reason the forum might be dieing is due to ap exams are drawing new.

ahhh ap exams :/. Which other summer programs did you apply to blackrose?

yeah i know I have mine in a week or two.

hmm I applied to the UPenn SAAST Summer Program, and Questbridge

oooh, good luck I hope you get in! :D

thanks Petri21! yeah I hope so too! I don’t really go to the community college as my last backup. So it’s for sure that your going to the YESS program?

yup yup, I sent caltech my confirmation yesterday saying I’d go and I got an e-mail from them today saying that they’d send me something in early May with more info. It’s going to be an interesting summer. By the looks of it I’m going to be in Mexico for a week than at caltech the 3 weeks right after that and then at my friend’s house in California for the week following that. (: It’ll be a good summer. I’m excited

o that’s cool. Where in Mexico are you going?

We’re going to Mazatlan (:. I’ve never been there before, but we’ve been to Cozumel and Cancun and they were really nice, but a tad too touristy. So this time we are going to Mazatlan, not as many other people. I’m a little sad though cuz they say the diving there is rubbish and I was looking forward to doing some

yeah I went to Cozumel on a cruise before. It was ok but like you said they are very touristy. But the main thing that I did not like was that everything was overpriced Well I guess all tourist spots are. Also they rarely took Mexican money they only took American money, which I though was pretty weird. But I hope you have a nice time, I never heard of Mazatlan. I heard Cancun is pretty nice especically for diving.

yeah Cancun is nice and the diving was good, Cozumel actually has better diving though. Yeah when I was there they mainly took American money too and I was just confused. I was like we are in Mexico right? ugh I have the May 2nd SAT coming up. I haven’t looked at any SAT stuff at all. I should pobably do that. I want to do good on this one so I just won’t have to worry about it anymore and so I can just move onto the subject tests.

lol same here but I think I might take the subject tests after the June one which is when school starts back. Hopefully it’s not too late by then. What subject test ae you taking. Also be carefully when you go over to Mexico I heard there is some kind of pig flu going around and humans are catching it. something like that.

haha I find it funny that we are the only two talking in this forum and were are not even going to it this summer.

I want to take the Subject SATs in June. I’m not sure how much I’ll remember after that. I’m planning to take the math 2 one and the physics one. Oh, thanks for the pigflu warning, I’ll watch out for that (:. Wow, now that you mention it that is pretty odd. Only non-MITESers on the MITES forum. I wonder where everyone else has disappeared off too? What subject tests are you planning to take?

Ha ha i guess i’ll post on here since i’ll be there this summer. Hmm i’m not sure, but i’ll probably take physics, and math II in june as well. I can’t decide which other one to take…

How is studying for AP exams going for you guys?
