@hpaero1
haha so are you in fairfax county then?

@xlala: yeah… stupid snow.

yeah im in fairfax too.
I hate the snow too
I can’t believe school is canceled for the week!

I know…
It’s the first time I actually want to go to school except for the waking up early in the morning part.
Last week, I was all set for the MITES deadline because I thought I had a week to get back all my recs and then postmark the package by the deadline, but I guess you can’t interfere with mother nature. I’m losing brain cells doing nothing but shoveling =p

@hpaero

I haven’t received a response yet. :(

yeah i knoww what you mean
I want to go back to school too! AP tests are coming soon and all the snow days have made some of my classes get behind
and @Nitestriker I called the mites office and the lady said as long as you like send an email and have a note with your application you can send it in late
buttt idk if that’s what you were talking about.

@NiteStriker

That’s strange… just wait for another day or something.

@xlala: yeah… so many of my classes are behind now. Haha… the fed. government is closed again tomorrow.
And yeah, I e-mailed them and the director said to include a copy of my e-mail and the reply with my package.

oh cool thanks for the info. that is helpful

aw. i wish i had snowstorms or something! lol. i hear its happening in the east coast, i’m from texas. i HARDLY see snow lol. i’m moving on ahead with my ap physics, english, history and calculus classes I’m sending my package for MITES tomorrow, and the online one probably until friday.

Another MITES 09 here! i know i’m late but I didnt know this thread was even going!
I just wanted to say good luck to all of you that applied! Be prepared for the best summer of your life…
Im not gonna lie… i hate it when it first started but when you get adjusted to the work, you will find that this is probably the best thing that has happened to you. You will meet the most amazing people and get to experience some of the most incredible things (the food at Simmons is not one of them). and for those of you who are worried about your “hooks” and scores… let it go… My sat score was a 2010, i came from a middle income family, and had never participated in any kind of engineering program or science fair. I basically beasted MITES in the end. lol (i was voted best performance in Calculus). so don’t sweat it. The MITES admissions people see something in you that you might not see in yourself and that’s what gonna get you accepted… not a perfect SAT score! :)

Cool, what classes did you take over there? By the way, is the food over there really that bad? If so, where else did you get food?

As i said… i was not really all that exposed to math and science so I was in Calculus 1, Physics 1, Chemistry, Engineering Design, and Humanities (which was mandatory for everyone). Engineering design was the best! This course made me fall in love with engineering so much!

I personally thought the food in Simmons was pretty bad… but i barely ate there so it was all good. You were given a kind of debit card (called tech cash) that you could use on the MIT campus at a bunch of different eating places so if you didnt want to eat dining hall food, you didnt have to. they put $70 on it each week and honestly i never used more than $40 of it!

@gt_emhs
I see, did they allow you guys to explore the whole campus?

@hpaero
Just got a response, apparently the online stuff should be submitted by the 15th and they told me that the supplemental stuff would be accepted until the end of the month. :)

Yup! you basically go to school till about five and after that your free to do whatever you want… but you’ll probably be doing p-sets most of that time. Many of my friends and i went exploring in Boston, Cambridge, and all of MIT. No one is there to tell you “do this, don’t do that” I dont mean there aren’t any adults but no one is going to chaperone you if you want to go into Boston or around MIT… except after 10pm because a TA has to go with you.

@NiteStriker: Oooo okay thanks for the info.
online SAT results coming out tomorrow

@gt_emhs: thanks for sharing the info… it sounds really fun and challenging. now, if only i could get in =p

if you don’t mind me asking, did you have a really high GPA when you applied?

3.78/4.0 and 4.3 weighted… but i am 100% sure this had very little to do with me getting in… honestly i think it had to do with my extracurricular activities and the way i wrote me essays :)

yeah, I think extracirriculars and essays are more important but I was just curious. =)

i used to go to fairfax county school. centreville high!

hey all, I have a silly question: I understand that the online application has to be completed by Feb.15. By “completed”, do they mean that each section is completed, or is there any “submit” button that we need to click to proceed?

@snowing

There’s a submit button at the bottom of the main menu on the online application
