MITES 2010 Information & Discussion

@TQSMNTASP

those are stellar stats!
with good essays I think you’ll get in no doubt.
A’s in all five APs?..whoa good job =D

^ Thanks…I also applied to TASP and am in the process of applying to YESS (my brother is an alum of that program)…I really do hope I get in to at least one of them because my parents don’t want to pay 5000 bucks for Yale yikes lol

haha
that’s exactly why I just applied to free programs. We can’t afford to pay like $2000-$9000 for a summer program. I’m applying to YESS too, but highly doubt I’ll get in. Plus, I’m not a URM. It’s a good thing the apps are free =D

If I don’t get into any of them, I have this one week thing at langley research center. Then, I’ll just do some work and volunteering over the summer.

@PaleDot @TQSMNTASP omgsh ya’lls stats are amazing, i’m Hispanic but i have NOTHING compared to that, i just applied because my brother told me to, but hopefully i get in, that would be like amazing.

One question: did we have to mail the request for a letter of rec?
Yeah, TQSMNTASP, amazing stats!

aah ok so
i called the mites people and they said the application is due
febuary 16th
so does that mean it has to be turned in by 12.00 a.m?
and also for the people in fairfax county
like my school doesn’t even have a unweighted gpa
everything is weighted so is that out of 4.0 or 5.0?
thanks im like freaking out any help would be greatly greatly appreciated

the app is due feb 16?.. ugh
i wanted more time to “polish” my essays but I thought it was due feb. 15 so I already submitted it yesterday.

yeah, same here… everything is pretty much weighted.
on family connection or something, they have your GPA but it’s weighted. I just calculated my soph/freshman gpa using the old grading scale (6 point scale) which was 3.85…soo I dunno what it actually is though. sorry

and I don’t think it is out of 5.0
the weighted is also out of 4.0

oh ok I think since like we have to send in the transcripts too
weighted is propably ok…i hope
im not even sure I can remeber my grades from freshmen and sophmore year to calculate
plus with like the grading scale change that would be hard
yeah the febuary 16th thing and 15th was complicated
oh well at least we have school tommorow
finnally

yep school tomorrow.
good thing it’s 2 hour delay, i can’t wake up early anymore =p

Yeah, so the counselor rec asked for an explanation of the grading scale i think…
should we explain how freshmen/soph year was different from this year or do you think the counselors explained it?

It totally messes up my grades…

lol, weighted would look so much better 4.3 vs. 3.85 but I think they want the uw

yeah I know what you mean
but like i don’t think its that big of a deal because they are going to see like the transcripts
so I think you’re good because they’ll see that you get good grades
i hate how the scale changed though its weird having half of highschool graded one way and the other half graded another way
and an a is till basically a 94 anyway haha 93 isnt much better and neither are a minuses

yeah, lucky freshmen
I don’t even see the point of the new grading scale. I really hate the A- part and B+ and B-. They should’ve just changed the weights and not the whole grading scale. Oh and A- is 3.7. Doesn’t make a big difference.

hahaha very true if they were going to change it they could have made 90-100 an A like most places instead of the minuses and plusses
but oh well not much to do about it

Yep.
Or at least make the new grading scale retroactive so that our freshmen/soph year letter grades will be based on the new scale.

i’m an immigrant from india and came here when i was 6. i documented my struggles about my race in my essays(like with me being embarassed b/c kids looked at me differently, so i used it as motivation). also my psat was 224 and my sat was 2280. GPA is 4.3 W. you think i have a chance?

i immigrated here when i was eight and that’s funny because I wrote one of my essays about my culture/ethnicity and how kids saw me differently so I used that as motivation to learn, etc.

i have the same weighted gpa as you, but you’re psat/sat scores are way higher.

i’m sure you have a chance since it seems like you have good grades. It now depends on your essays, reccomendations, extra cirricular activities.

Ahh submitted my essays! But uff… my essays were terrible. Truly awful. I wish I’d spent more time on them; I ended up writing them at the last minute, and it shows.
Ah well, such is life. At least I know to not make the same mistake during the college admissions process!
Good luck all!

Glad to have submitted my app online :)

@TQSMNTASP

With those stats and a decent essay, even if you don’t get into MITES, I’m almost positive that you’d get into YESS.

@Palaoa: I’m with you, it feels great!

Good luck everyone!

Thanks to everyone who complimented me on my stats, I really do hope I get into MITES or YESS.

@Palaoa…Good thing I love to write =)

did anyone apply to SAMS?
