MITES 2010 Information & Discussion

Oh wow, I didn’t think that many people were interested in biomed engineering.
Supervisor, yeah I want to be an aerospace engineer because it’s what I’ve kind of always wanted to be, but biomedical joins both engineering and the medical field together which is really interesting. =)

I’ve never liked hospitals that much. Volunteering at the hospital is fine for me, but going to the hospital as a patient is not a pleasant thought… especially the operating room. =p

Lol I’m not interested in biomedical engineering. I’m not interested in engineering at all. I want to major in brain & cognitive it’s a major at MIT and a minor in neuroscience. Plan to be a neurosurgeon :slight_smile: it sucks MIT doesn’t have a medical school:/

Oooo, neurosurgeon. That sounds awesome =D

My parents want me to be a doctor or something like that. Then they back it up with, “but you can do whatever you want to”.

Do any of you read MIT blogs?

Haha, I read MIT blogs all the time. It’s addicting and they’re so interesting. :)

Yep, they are interesting and those people have a good sense of humor. =D

yes a neurosurgeon, ahh i love the human brain and also the medical field :slight_smile:
i’ve actually held a human brain in my hand :p

nil desperandum, I just saw your question about whether it is okay that your MITES password doesn’t match your e-mail password. That is fine. Personally I think you should always pick a password that is different from your e-mail password when you register for something.

hey has anybody gotten an email yet confirming that they received all your stuff

@Robert
haha, I’ve seen a human brain… never touched.
The only neurosurgeon I can think off of the top of my head is dr. sanjay gupta on CNN…

@creyes
no i havn’t

@hpaero1 ferreal? thats cool :slight_smile: haha. its amazing, right?

ahh i haven’t recieved an email either, ehh.

^
yep. it was a couple years back when i was in tx.
ehh, it was cool, but i wouldn’t touch it =p

in 5th grade we dissected baby sharks
in 7th grade, we dissected frogs and it was pretty…disgusting.They looked like rubber toys with a putrid smell.
9th grade, we dissected pigs.

@hpaero1 i live in texas! :smiley: haha.
why wouldn’t you touch it?! its amazing :slight_smile: && i’ve touched a liver, spleen, stomache, spinal cord, everything! lol.

omgsh baby sharks?! i wish i can do that :slight_smile: lol.
i dissected frogs in 7th grade too.
in Biology Honors we did owl pellets,
and in AP Bio we dissected pigs :stuck_out_tongue: lol.

^
Oh, I just noticed your name thing that says location.
hehe, I lived in Austin for about 3 years and went to dallas/ft. worth like every other weekend.
because i get a bit grossed out… therefore i can’t be a surgeon or doctor=p
wow! you’ve touched all those things? that’s cool. i’ve also seen a liver and lungs (healthy vs. cancerous) but nothing else.

lol, for me pigs was in bio honors. my partner didn’t want to touch the pig because she was too grossed out so i had to do everything and it wasn’t that fun (the smell) but it was interesting =)

yep, baby sharks. =D it was part of a summer program

april is sooo far away…

@hpaero1 ferreal? ahh i like Austin :slight_smile: lol. and also Dallas :slight_smile: haha.
aw. i dont think i get grossed out, I LOVE BLOOD :slight_smile: haha. and people :stuck_out_tongue:
yeah i’ve touched all those things, it was a week long program at a medical school lol.

ahh i know the smell was HORRIBLE. good thing i’m not dissecting pigs anymore! lol.
aw. thats cool, i hope i get the chance to dissect baby sharks :)

agh i know. april :confused:
is there any other programs you’re applying to?

@Robert
Yeah, Austin was really pretty and UT is…pretty big. Before I moved there, I was thinking of desert, cowboys, and southern accents =p

you love blood?..eww. my friend loves blood ever since she started those twilight books…

pigs were more fun than sharks =D

umm, I’m applying to YESS even though I’m not URM and possibly SSP. i started the application for SSP, but I’ve asked my teachers for so many reccomendations already, it just feels weird to ask again (especially my AP chem teacher. He’s done 3 recs for me already this year).

how about you?

@hpaero1 haha, twilight…and April is soooo far away!

@creyes221 I got a confirmation email when I emailed MITES the end confirmation page for my online app, because I already mailed everything else out. They said thanks for scanning and sending it, and it would be added to the rest of my app. I don’t think we actually get a confirmation email, that they received everything though…

@MIT15
Twilight… ever since harry potter ended, a lot of people went vampire crazy, at least in my school.

Oh, was it like an actual confirmation e-mail about your whole app or just that they got the scanned confirmation thing?
I think we do get a confirmation when they get all our stuff… not sure though.

Hah, yep, a lot of girls went vampire crazy in my school too. I thought the books were good, but some people take it a little too far…lol.

The confirmation email was only for the page I scanned. I still got really excited, though. lol.

I just received a confirmation e-mail, it basically says thank you for applying and that the application is complete. The e-mail also says that you will know your selection status by April 16th. So I guess 3 days less :D

Lol I also like biomedical engineering, but I like chemistry more, thus I prefer chemical engineering.

And yes, those MIT blogs are really interesting, it’s made me like MIT more than I used to.

Hello all!

I also applied to MITES, and can’t wait for results to come out already!

I mailed my stuff off on the postmark date, so I haven’t gotten a confirmation email yet either.
