MITES 2010 Information & Discussion

@Robert18…my PSAT was a 211, I live in FL where the cutoff last year was…a 211. So hopefully it wont go up.

I already applied to LEAD Engineering and MITES.

I’m still going to apply to LEAD Business, SAMS, SSP, and YESS.

And I was 3 under where commended usually is (198 vs ~201) :(

But National Achievement is still likely! :D

I think my state cutoff is 218. I’m way below that score for PSAT (198).

@magi:
ehh don’t feel stupid. only my writing score was highest, my reading was…horrible and math was bad too. colleges basically just look at reading/math. that sounds hectic
lol, I actually went to see a movie the night before the SAT =p
Ohhhh, okay. Our course selection is during different classes. Like, the freshmen have theirs during their english class so they pretty much talk to the counselors one on one. Juniors have it during hist class and it takes up all of class. We have about 7 counselors for about 1800 students
Yeah, us too. Actually, my Ap lang teacher gives us a pop essay every week and essays to do at home every other week.

@Robert
that’s cool =D good luck!
I wish my school let us do that. We are required to take physics reg/honors before taking AP.

i’m taking bc calc and it’s pretty interesting even though it gets confusing sometimes.

@GAC1107
I’m applying to YESS and I think i’m applying to SSP… but not sure.

I’m having some trouble here. I just read the FAQ on the MITES website and it says that they will only “accept results from tests taken by January 15th.” That means that I can’t send in my January 23rd scores and the problem here is that I put in those scores on the online application.

Plus, I don’t even have an “official” score report. I’m not even sure if I put in my school’s CEEB code on my application. What should I do? :(

I emailed them to ask about the SAT score in Jan. They told me that “You can send us a copy of the online score report, but we will still need a photocopy of the official score report when you receive it.”

but i’m wondering where and how I can get the official score report. Can anyone please help???

@NiteStriker
uh oh,
I sent in my Jan 23rd scores too, with the unofficial online report.
Did you send in the PSAT also?.. or just SAT?

@firevswater
oh really? I think you have to buy it or something…
I sent in my official PSAT score report and unofficial sat.
I’m not going to get an official sat score report because I didn’t ask for one…

@hpaero1
yeah i think i have to buy it but i just couldn’t find anywhere to order >.<

@firevswater
oh ummm. did we have to order it before we got the online scores?
i’m confused now… i thought the online report was fine

I thought the online report would be accepted too. I have a copy of my PSAT results and I did put those in my online application. However, compared to my SAT score (1950) my PSAT score was much lower (178). I even chose MIT to be one of the 4 colleges that will receive my scores but I’ve been told that only the admissions office has access to this. It doesn’t even seem like we can send a score report from the collegeboard directly to the MITES office. :(

Now, I’ll just have to hope that my school gets an official report.

@NiteStriker
Hmmm. Well I don’t know. I guess I’ll just wait for a confirmation e-mail and see if they have any problems with the online score report that I sent (I already sent the supplemental stuff). Did you?

@hpaero1 wow, your in calc bc? ahh thats amazing :slight_smile: lol. what did you get on your ab exam last year?
&& thanks! :)

Good thing i didn’t take the SAT at all. The scores i sent were from my PSAT and my PLAN lol. i just left the SAT scores blank :slight_smile: haha.

@Robert
I didn’t take AB. I took pre-calc honors which was supposed to include AB, but it didn’t really. Right now I have an A because start of new quarter =p
I had A first quarter, A- 2nd quarter.

Haha, well they can disregard my sat scores then and just look at psat. they’re almost identical =D

What’s PLAN?

@hpaero1 you skipped AB?! luckky! lol. well, BC is everything of AB plus more. i took pre-calc concurrent, but it didn’t include anything of AB.

ahh lucky, no one gets an A in AB the teacher is just to hard, i got an 86 last semester, but this semester i’m doing good with an 93.

lol true… haha. and PLAN is like the PSAT but for the ACT instead of the SAT lol. i scored like almost perfect on the math part :stuck_out_tongue: haha.

@Robert
I guess you could say I skipped. =p In my school, if you take pre-calc honors you’re allowed to take either AB or BC calc, but if you took regular, you can only take AB. I really want to take multi-variable + matrix algebra next year so that’s why I took BC even though I’m not that good at math… especially tests. The A was lucky =p

Ohhh, okay. Good job. :smiley: I suck at the sat math for some reason.

@hpaero1 is that multi-variable & matrix algebra AP? ohh i see, well i’m sure your math skills will improve lol.

ahh i suck at the sat english/vocab lol.

@hpaero1
i don’t know… anyway i sent in my online report too… hope that will work.

@Robert
It’s not an AP, but it’s a college class. And we only get half a credit for it. Well, .5 credit for matrix algebra and .5 credit for multi-var. We only get like .25 weighted points. It’s just the last math class, besides AP stat. =)

Haha, yeah sure it will. they better improve for the june SAT. =D

I suck at the reading… it’s like I don’t find memorizing vocab useful because you never know which ones they are going to use. Also, some of the passages are so long and boring… I just lose focus.

@firevswater
yeah, well hopefully it works! =)

@hpaero1 are you going to take AP stat? I wanted to take that class but it’s not offered at my school. Isn’t .25 weight the same weight as a regular AP class? Hm idk. Ah it’s weird.

Oh and your going to take the SAT right? Good luck with that! :slight_smile: lol. Yeah the vocab seems pointless.

@Robert
Well, I signed up for it, but I have 5 weeks to change it if I want too. I think I’m taking it. No, our school has an extra 1 point for AP classes so if you get an A in an AP class it would be 4.0 unweighted but 5.0 weighted.

yep… are you taking the SAT or just the ACT?

@hpaero1 ohh I see my grading scale is different it’s weird. It’s by a 100 point scale. We have the 4.0 scale but it’s only for unweighted.

I’m taking the ACT lol. My brother got a 29 and got into MIT lol.
