What time do you think someone is going to get to the bars near Wrigley to start watching the game at 7? Say 5, because they have a reserved ticket. Well, who is going to go there from 3-5, or from 12-5, if they are going to be thrown out at 5 because they don’t have a reservation? Those people are going to want to be in line at another bar establishing themselves for game time. The bars would be losing the revenue from the whole day.
They aren’t selling a 3 hour block of time for just the game, but the entire day. You can’t buy just a 3 hour ticket for Disneyland even if you only want to stay 3 hours. If I’m paying $500, I’d want to be there for 5 hours, or 8 hours, but if you only want to be there for 3 hours, you still have to pay $500.
I think if someone is silly enough to show up 4 hrs early they’d better call uber when its over (or take the train). DS watched the game about 3 mi from the field. No cover charge. And the game was over after around 3 hrs yesterday.
If someone is paying for a table, they will have a reservation which I doubt will be 4 hrs before a 3 hr game. The place will want to try to turn a table before they tie it up for the evening.
There is a restaurant here that had music that starts at 9. If you make an early reservation ( if the later times are all booked) you are told the table has been reserved at, say 8:30 and you will need to be finished in time to make it available for the reserved later time
Last night’s game took 3:33 to play (not counting the Star Spangled Banner and other pre-game fun) so about 4 hours on TV. The games in Cleveland took 3:37 and 4:04, but it is not the length of the game that matters to the bar owners. The customers will stay however long they take. It is the time before the game they are trying to sell and that’s always the same - 5-7, 3 to 5, or noon to game time. Your daughter found the atmosphere she wanted for no cover charge. paid what she thought was fair. If she wanted something different, she’d have to pay for it.
If a restaurant has music at 9 but you can only get a table at 6 and need to leave at 8, are you going to make the reservation to go the restaurant on the same day your favorite band is playing, just to eat even though you don’t get to see them? I really doubt it. If James Taylor is playing at 9, would you want the hassle of going at 6 and being tossed at 8, just when the fun is starting? You’d probably just go a different day.
Whatever. You can have the last word since you seem to have decided that your opinion is the only one with any merit. I obviously disagree. However, not sure who you are responding to as I don’t have a daughter (except the one older S married and I got by default! )
DS and GF are at a sports bar a few miles from the stadium. Said they got there 2 hrs before the game, and its crowded. I believe they have a seat (table). He mentioned that closer to Wrigley field the roads closed at noon and most folks take the train into the Wrigley area.
The guy that sang the national anthem tonight also sang it twice at Chicago during the Cubs/Dodgers series. I am not sure why they have to use the same person that many times, I’d think there would be several performers willing to come in to sing. He is not their regular season guy, no reason to have him so many times during the post season.
Congrats to Cleveland. I’m conceding. I can’t see the Cubs winning three in a row, but I at least hope (well, I hope we win the whole thing) we get to see one victory at Wrigley.
It’s fun to see the watch party at the stadium so packed and electric. We were going to go, but decided not to at the last minute for various reasons. Maybe we will tomorrow…
I have to admit I felt a twinge of sadness for the Cubs fans towards the end of tonight’s game–not enough to wish they were the victors of the game or the Series, though!
Cubs are looking much better tonight. There seems to be so much energy in the Chicago stands. I think I would like the Cubs to win this game for the home crowd but I am rooting for Cleveland to win the series. Joe Madden is a Lafayette grad, my son’s alma mater, and Laf has done several features on him in recent years. Terry “Tito” Francona, however, is from my home town and was probably in school with my younger brother. Our whole town seems to be cheering for him on FB. And Cleveland, even though they won the NBA title this year, can always use something to cheer for. So, I am hoping for a win in Cleveland, in game 6, in front of the home town fans. Go Tribe!
Not to jinx the Cubs, but i have a feeling Arrieta is going to bring his A game on Tuesday, and the Cubbies will take game 6. If it goes to 7, can Kluber pitch again on three days’ rest? He’s been great, but he’s been pitching a ton. Can his arm hold up?
These games have been so stressful to watch! I’m a Cardinal fan, rooting for the Cubs. I’m glad they won last night at Wrigley so the fans will have that memory to cherish.
I think Kluber will pitch game 7. Hoping there is a game 7!
OMG. I just can’t take the Chapman pitching much more. Every time he is there, whether in season or playoffs, it’s like being on tinter hooks. Maddon now seems to put Contreras as his catcher because when he first came to the Cubs his wild pitches were too much to handle, and he can speak to him in Spanish if the need arises, as it did last night when Bosio went to the mound.
Good bye David Ross. I’m happy you had such an important role in last night’s game, including the winning RBI.
It was said the Guyer was only in RF for Cleveland last night because Chisenhill(sp?) was ill. I thought he played a better RF than Lonnie.
I know I conceded, but I still want the Cubs to win.
