MLB post season thread

Pretty good last two days in sports. A very good WS defined with St Louis and Boston, and, more importantly, a lot of over-ranked and overhyped pretenders biting the dust today.

And… my prediction was correct!!

Two teams I dont care about.
But I may watch a game just to see what songs they play

lack of speed killed the Tigers…Miggy couldn’t beat out anything, Martinez only a single on a bases loaded hit off the wall set up the double play to follow. Fielder, Peralta…slowww

Should be a great WS, the 2 best teams made it, both had 97 regular season wins.

Since I am a Cobs fan, I haven’t had a dog in the fight for…

But, since I have always wanted to root for some team in the WS, I took to Boston in '68 due to Yaz. He’s lefty like me, and St. Louis, because they are in the same division as my team.

I going to go w/Boston.

I’m growing a beard and rooting for the Sox. I doubt they will face better starting pitchers than the Detroit foursome. Relievers will be a different story however. May have to take a few afternoon naps this week.

The Red Sox played a good series. They deserve it!

Now that my team is booted out, I don’t know who to root for, but at least I won’t be as tense watching the games now. :)

I think they’re all great teams, but I just think the Tigers didn’t perform at their best. Players injured, pitchers frazzled, etc…

We’re still one of the best teams though. And we’ve been consistently doing well the past few years, unlike some teams.

A case can be made that the people of Boston have had a very tough year and could certainly use some good cheer. This is for Boston Strong.

Detroit has also been going through some hard times too, though financially as opposed to emotionally.

I somehow wish both could be in the World Series. Lol

WTG! Great prediction Barrk!
You are right Dusktodawn.
First time since 1999 and only second time in wild-card era that NL team with best record will face AL team with best record in the World Series (1995 was the other).
I went to a football game and set the dvr for this game only to get home and miss the decisive inning. I even added time however with 3+ hour I missed the seventh and on. These games sure were dragging along! Geology works faster than Buchholz does. start enforcing the 12-second rule. What about An NBA-style clock on the scoreboard?

Pitchers should get two unsuccessful pickoff attempts per baserunner. What do you feel about if the unsuccessful pick off pitch become called balls?

^ It won’t get any quicker for the WS.

I think they need a clock: deliver the ball to the plate (or to a base) within 20 seconds or a ball is called.

Also, on the other side, look up MLB Rule 6.02: a batter isn’t supposed to step out of the box - the national league rule requires keeping a foot in. I think that a strike should be called automatically if the batter leaves the box between pitches.

I can watch 2 - 4 plays in a football and not miss a pitch. And football requires 22 men to line-up, plus substitutions, calling a play, etc.

Thanks! My next prediction is Sox over Cards in 6.

“The strategy in these games is to get to the eight inning with a lead, guys.”

Tim McCarver - Baseball Genius

Hey barrk
Your prediction maybe “swept” away!
Boston sure has everything going there way!

Couple questions for us hindsight managers on the morning after.
Would you have pulled Wainwright to save him for a later game?
I feel if I was Matheny, I’d probably would have been looking to keep Wainwright fresh for a potential starts in game 4 and 7. Maybe even early in the second inning,or when it got to 4-0 or 5-0, to go to somebody like Shelby Miller who has proven capable all season.

is there a Worst unwritten rule in baseball? How about the pitcher is never supposed to field a popup? Was wainwright or Kozma errors more embarrassing?
Dont you think the Ref must have been looking at Kozma’s feet to miss that ball going off the glove?

The embarrassing moment was in the 1st when the umpire at 2nd called a ‘neighborhood’ out, meaning the fielder wasn’t touching 2nd when he caught the ball … but he never caught the ball. They need to eliminate the “neighborhood” out from the game.

And so everyone is happy the umpires got together and corrected the hideous mistake … but that only happened because the Sox manager complained because under baseball’s idiotic traditions the other umpires don’t volunteer one is wrong but have to be asked. The only sport where this kind of stupid, no checking happens, like umpires are fragile dolls.

To the pleasure of the annoying speakinghead quoted above, that strategy did not work too well for the superior team in this game (and the best team overall)

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Busch Stadium

Texas Rangers … 1 1 0 1 1 0 3 0 0 2 0 9
St. Louis Cardinals 2 0 0 1 0 1 0 1 2 2 1 10

Wow…Cardinals pitchers had such “electric stuff”…how many times did Buck and McGenius feel the need to proclaim how great their pitching was? It was great when they were stating how great that lefty stuff was, then boom, first pitch HR for Papi.

In regards to 2b ump, it was obvious he was looking at the bag and just assumed the ball was dropped on the transfer. I mean, how many times do major leaguers drop a simple flip to second.

Must win for Cards tonight IMO…Sox hitters were relieved to see a 2 pitch Wainwright with 91 on the fastball after facing better Tiger pitching. Pitchers need at least 3 pitches to be effective against Sox hitters…Wacha’s change up is the key tonight.

I disagree. Torre did say that the umpires did start moving toward the 2nd base umpire which is supposed to be a signal that they want to discuss it. Also, in many sports, officials will NOT over-rule a call made by another official.
