Anyone here a fan of the sport of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)? Lately it's been getting a lot of exposure on cable TV (Spike) and sports media is just recently been indulged by extensive EPSN magazine coverage.

It's a fairly new sport, but it's gaining great popularity, especially in the young American (20s) demographic.

I've been into it for a while now, and have been a huge fan of Pride FC. It's great that the sport has become much more professional and popular, with bigger shows and better athletes. I still love the less-known shows though, like DEEP, ZST, Shooto and K-1 Heroes in Japan. I'm very sad about the demise and eventual buyout of Pride to UFC though.

I watched it a few times but I can't stand to see when the person gets knocked out and the other guy just keeps beating him up before the referree stops him

There's some misconceptions about that. A lot of the times when the guy flops to the ground, he has a HUGE chance at recovering. Being knocked down is not the same as being knocked out.

So the jumping on top and pounding to make sure he's actually won is definitely justified, and the referee does his job to make sure no one gets hurt. For guys who are truly knocked out, the fight is usually immediately stopped.
