My S has a 27-28" waist. He got a custom made suit and it fits him perfectly. He is otherwise tough to fit. I suggested he get 2 pairs of slacks when he gets his next custom suit, since slacks need more laundering and care generally than jackets.
My last batch of dresses arrived the other day – navy, Ralph Lauren. I now have 2 or 3 that will be fine. D is coming next weekend for Father’s Day; she can help me decide. Ultimately she’d agree with whatever I want, but since none of them jump out to me as the one, I’d like a second opinion. Now that I’ve narrowed them down, I may even show H!
Also I’ll be glad when I settle on a dress – since that means I won’t be searching online any longer and THAT means my computer won’t be taken over by dress ads! I can move on to shoes …
For DD’s wedding, I wore this dress in cobalt blue. I had tried on and ordered many dresses. As soon as I put this dress on, I knew it was “the one”.

The pleating on the right side bodice and the pleated skirt flair on the left side are beautiful. I also like a dress with back interest, and the three straps attached at different points along the upper back edge of the dress.
For DS’s wedding, I was asked to wear a beige/neutral short dress. Off I went to the same store where I found the dress for DD’s wedding. I selected this Thai silk dress in beige.

The dress drapes better than shown in the picture. Thai silk really is stunning and forgiving, and I have already worn this dress as a guest at another wedding.
Only two kiddos, so no more MOB or MOG shopping for me. However, I have a brother who lives in Laos. On a recent visit, he brought me a beautiful piece of Lao silk to have a dress made. Now I just need an occasion!
Elegant dresses, @“cincy gal”
So I mailed in a return to Nordstrom and got the confirmation today. Ugh, they retuned the wrong dress! I am positive they will make this right but ugh! Of course they retuned a cheaper dress than I returned, an over $200 mistake.
I don’t have time to deal with it today but I will be on the phone first thing tomorrow
Nordstrom’s is having some issues these days. I got a package on Friday and when I opened it there was a dress I did not order with an invoice/packing slip for a dress I did order. Even the bag the dress was in had the right information but the dress in the bag was the wrong one. A phone call cleared it up, I think, but I’ll believe it when I see the credit on my account.
This is the dress that I ordered from Nordstrom for my great-niece wedding in a few weeks. It is religious so I have to have my arms covered and not exposed too much in the front… so this works for me but the one that I ordered is in a navy blue color for the jacket and the embellishment on the dress but it is sort of a deep blue, maybe in between navy and royal blue. Thinking silver shoes as navy might be too matchy. Hopefully I can find something dressy but comfy.

Love it!! I’ve been trying to find a Komarov dress to wear, but – not yet.
@bookmama22, what a lovely dress! I think silver or black shoes would be lovely. The weddings others attend seem dressier than the ones I go to. :x ;
Nordstrom customer service was extremely helpful. There was a different Komarov dress that I originally looked at but it only showed as available in petite and so I emailed Customer Care, described what was needed and they sent me a link with several dresses and suggested this one which I ordered. I didn’t pay anything extra for shipping and it arrived within 2 days. This wedding is black tie… but I really didn’t want to buy a long gown that I would likely not wear again.
Yes, having an outfit one only ever plans to wear once (except the wedding gown) doesn’t work for me either. I am sure that lovely dress can be worn for date nights and other special events. Long gowns are indeed more limited as to their uses.
I have ended up with a lot of solid colored short dresses. I wear them to weddings (as a guest) and other special events. I rarely attend anything that requires a formal gown, unless I’m in a wedding party.
Glad to know how helpful Nordstrom has been. Will keep that in mind.
nice! Bookmama22.
I like the color the model has on–maybe with some bling.
I would not like black as it will tone it down.
Silver will work also.
But I like the beige and maybe with some rhinestones.
That is a beautiful dress! Nice flow. I’m sure it would be a pleasure to wear.
Why is it a calamity if MOG and MOB wear the same color dress? Is it even worth worrying about? I am genuinely interested in why this is a thing… for future knowledge!
In my quest to find a wedding guest dress I ordered a Komarov dress from Nordstroms. I like it and it may end being the one I wear. Are these something special? I ordered it because the style seemed to be forgiving and it is. Is that what’s special? I’m surprised to see a few posts specifically mentioning Komarov. It seemed a little expensive for what it was but at this point, as long as the price is within reason, I need to go with what fits!
In the photos, the eye is drawn to what is similar. Just as you wouldn’t want to wear the same color as the bride, or the bridesmaid. It takes away from the individuality of the wearer. My guess, anyhow. I’m just trying to respect the rules of the game, and sure did not grow up with this knowledge.
Thumper, I checked with D, and they will not send the cards for a number of months.
For me, one appeal of the Komarov dresses is that they would be ankle length on me and not require expensive alterations. I need/want an ankle length dress to hide my medically required compression stockings. The other is the forgiving style.
I am up to shoes and have ordered several. I tried on Adranna Papell shoes in gunmetal at Macy’s Herald Square and ordered those online from Macy’s in the next size up. I ordered a nice looking shoe from Michael Kors from Zappo’s and tomorrow or the next day I might head to Lord and Taylor again.
@bookmama22 we need links to pics of your shoes!!
