Agree with @thumper1, @bookmama22 – shoe pix, please! I expect to decide on THE DRESS within the next several days, so shoes are next on my list.
Me too! I have my four dress choices here for review by my D and FDIL when they come for Father’s Day. Unless I feel differently when I try them on again, any one of the four will be fine with me. I mean, they’re basically variations on a theme - one will work. Once that decision is made, it will be off to the shoe departments.
I think shoes will be harder than this dress for me!
I tried on Komarov dresses and loved them – except for the slippery jackets, which tend to slide out of place on some people. I would not have been able to get the jacket to stay put unless I pinned it there – which did not seem like a great idea with such delicate fabric.
Still, they’re so beautiful…
I am hoping that these fit me as I ordered a half-size up from Macy’s. The one that I tried on in the store was too tight and Nordstrom.com did not have in my size either…but it is a beautiful shoe and the heel height is not too high.
Pretty shoe, and the heel height looks good, but it looks uncomfortable to me.
I am fanatical about shoe comfort, so I find it almost impossible to think about buying shoes online.
I am all about comfortable shoes and would not buy anything unless I’m fairly positive they are very comfortable on MY feet. Mostly I buy in person at bricks and mortar places.
I ended up in these for the evening. I’m quite sure not one person noted my MOG shoes.

Anyone here with size 8.5 feet? Grab these while you can!

(39 in Choo is US 8.5 folks. Despite what the Nordstrom says. How do I know… )
Those look incredibly comfortable!
Bummer! Sold out!
I definitely need wedges – the wedding is at a camp; dirt paths. With a short dress, I don’t believe I can get away with flip-flops, at least initially. The Jimmy Choos above look comfortable, but I won’t pay that much for shoes. (Yes, I get that it’s an incredible price.) I do like the style, though.
Zappos was my friend when it came to buying shoes for my son’s wedding 2 years ago. I had been to all the brick and mortar stores first and couldn’t find anything comfortable or in my size. At Zappos I could specify the heel height, color, read reviews, and, once home, wear them for hours to see how they felt. With free returns, it was easier than driving more extensively in the hopes of finding a pair of shoes I liked at a store.
@shellfell: I couldn’t agree more. Going from store to store with the hope of finding something I like, in my size, is just not worth the time. Zappos is wonderful, as far as I’m concerned.
Zappo’s with free shipping and return for 365 is awesome. Younger d needed silver shoes last year for a wedding in which she was a bridesmaid and she ordered 7 pairs she liked from Zappo’s, she is hard to find as a very small 5.5 or 6 size, selected one and sent 6 back. If I return from Zappo’s, I just slap the label on and leave it on my office for UPS pick-up. With Nordstrom.com, I usually might drive to the mall. With Lord and TAylor, i can easily walk over to the main store or drive to a suburban one if i want. This is the first time I’ve ever ordered from Macy’s.com but I work right near Herald Square. Hope these shoes arrive today. Too bad about those Jimmy Choo’s… they look awesome, I would have ordered them myself. I do like to buy in the store but as it is so easy to shop online and return, I do that also. Once my husband dropped off a Zappo’s box that was going back at a UPS store near us and there was a huge stack of Zappo’s return boxes. Since he isn’t a huge consumer of shoes or anything but he is the father of two daughters, he forgets how much stuff people buy and return.
I started looking online at floor-length dresses. I have never worn a fancy evening dress, and I confess that I am drawn to really expensive dresses by Zac Posen, Thiea, La Petite Robe di Chiara Boni, St. John Collection … I had no idea there were such beautiful gowns out there! Of course, I will end up with something less awesome (and far less expensive), but a girl can dream.
I did send D a link to this one as a joke: http://www.lordandtaylor.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302023795&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442320036&R=700770885936&P_name=Vera+Wang&N=302023795&bmUID=lOgMK2M . And no, I don’t want anything like that!
Actually @kelsmom that’s a pretty dress!
I love how they put that the model is 5’10" tall and is wearing a size 8. We are ALL built like that…not!
I’m sure if you post some of your dress “criteria” folks will send you links to a lot of nice choices! Everyone on this thread is very helpful.
It’s a bit risque for a MOB, I think! I like it as a dress … I like a lot of dresses that aren’t quite right for the occasion, though. That is part of my issue. There was a Say Yes to the Dress episode where the mom tried on a totally see through and very inappropriate dress … I keep thinking of that as I ogle over backless, cut-out, plunging necklines. LOL.
The Vera Wang dresses run small - at least for me. I tried on the navy lace dress that had a similar design, without the sheer bodice, just a v-neck sleeveless a-line. It’s a very pretty dress at a pretty reasonable pricepoint.
