@kelsmom - you might want to check out RealReal. People dump their gowns there all the time. So what the dress has been worn… just dry clean it.
If anyone is interested, Saks Fifth Avenue is having an awesome sale right now, with lots off of some very expensive gowns.
And the winner is:
This one was the favorite of my H, both my Ss and my MIL. My D liked both and my FDIL preferred another dress but liked this one, as well. I feel wonderful in this dress and it’s very comfortable. My H, who usually hates one-shoulder dresses thought it looked “elegant and very flattering.” I’m good and I’m done! Now, my D is another story but that too will work out, I’m sure. For me, on to shoes, except that 3 weeks ago I interacted in a very negative way with an uneven sidewalk in NYC and my right foot is still wonky. However, I have 2 months to find shoes and it shouldn’t be an issue. Thanks for all the help!
Absolutely stunning dress! I wish I had wedding to make because I would buy that one in an instant. My friend is making her son’s wedding and is wearing a dress in a similar style. It cost twice the price and isn’t as elegant.
Thank you - I’m really happy with it and that’s not an easy task usually!
Great choice!
Very elegant, @runnersmom! I love the drape of the bottom.
Love that dress. Are you going to wear black? I seem to recall it first appearing in another color…
The pictured color is “midnight blue,” and is a stunning dress. It IS a stunning dress!
Yes, it is a beautiful navy blue, not quite as dark as in the picture. In our wedding, both mothers are wearing navy which makes this MOG happy since it’s my best color and what I would likely have chosen anyway.
You are going to look fabulous! Just a great dress.
I found my dress at Nordstrom and finally found shoes at Lord and Taylor. I cut it very close now I just need earrings and a purse but those should be easy. The wedding is next month.
I decided to go to the mall again today. If I mention doing that again…slap me! Awful. The summer stuff was very picked over…and the fall stuff isn’t all in yet. I usually have good luck at LT, but their selection this year is nit my cup of tea. Nordstrom had only plus size summer dresses left…and a very meager selection of regular size…and I’m talking period. Macy’s…was a mess…as usual.
My issue is…I’m really NOT an online shopper. I’m not one to charge forumor rice dresses, have them shipped, and then have to return all of them. It’s just not my thing. I also prefer to feel the fabrics, and see the real colors which are not always true to color online.
Oh well…I have 11 months. And I do have some dresses I bought that will work.
But really…what I want…and what is available just are not the same.
No good boutiques near you, @thumper1?
@thumper1, having spent all afternoon returning 7 dresses to 3 different stores that I had ordered for my D to try on, with 4 more from three other stores sitting in my dining room waiting their turn, I know what you mean. The bricks and mortar selection, however, has been pitiful and I’ve found many more options for her online at the same stores.
No good boutiques near me. @doschicos
Size selection really is much better online than at most stores. I so much prefer to be able to see and feel fabrics and see how they fall as well. I have bought literally a dozen pairs of slacks for both S for Christmas and had to return all because none fit. (Lucky for me, all were at same mall but tiring nonetheless.). I’ve also bought him shirts and jackets with similar experiences. I mostly have given up as I find it too exhausting.
I am fortunate that I can often find things very that fit me nicely–online or at stores.
Don’t forget some really easy shopping online places.
I have purchased some great clothing on Zappos and Amazon.
And all I need to do is print out the return label and take the box down the road to the UPS
store. I have not like returning things to box stores.
That’s all I have to do when I order stuff from Nordstrom, L&T, Macy’s, etc., and want to return it. Usually they give you a return label with the package – Bloomie’s makes you print it out; NBD – and i just tape it all up and drop it off at my local UPS place. Easy-peasy.
Just FYI…even the nearest UPS store…is a schlep from where I live.
