@musicmom1215 What time of day is the wedding, and what is the receptions venue like? Don’t forget the possibility of separates, or something like a simple dress worn with a lovely, flowy silk kimono jacket that finesses a multitude of sins and is beautiful and individual.
@Consolation The wedding is going to be rustic, farmhouse chic style in a historic building. The reception will be in an adjacent building. Being the mother of the groom, I am not included in the planning, which is ok by me. I prefer a long dress to cover my legs. I have considered separates and think that might work well. At 5’4", a tea-length skirt on a normal person would be ankle-length for me. So far, the only skirts I have seen have been black, but I have only just begun my search! I think any shade of blue would be great for my coloring and for the occasion, but I will give the MOB the first choice. I am waiting to find out what color she is wearing.
You may find out they don’t care - I’m the MOG, and the MOB and I are both wearing navy at the request of the bride.
@runnersmom, any chance you can show us your dress again so I don’t have to go find it?
I’m the MOG and the wedding is October 7. The MOB does not have a dress and as far as I know hasn’t ordered any either (she hadn’t a month ago). No idea what color she is even looking at.
I ordered another set of dresses and every single person I have shown pictures to has picked the same dress. I knew as soon as I put it on that it was the one.
The bride gave her approval that I find a dress since her mom wasn’t, so I did.
I picked out my shoes yesterday http://ninashoes.com/gerri-silver-reflect-suedette–19634?c=213. They are actually very comfortable. I’m going to have ballet flats to change into for dancing later.
I just need earrings and a clutch and I’m done.
Now if everything else goes just as well.
@VaBluebird, this is it:
Got it on sale…
@deb922: I love the dress. Which color??
I got the steel sorry I thought I was linking to that color. I have dark hair, the steel really sets off my coloring.
The steel looks blue in the picture but it’s not. It photographed well, I had another dress but it didn’t photograph very well. That’s something to consider, take photos in the dresses to see how it photographs.
It’s also longer on me even though I got the petite and petites are usually a pretty perfect length on me. It swirls around my ankles, very pretty
runnersmom, that dress is gorgeous.
Does anyone have any thoughts about an appropriate dress for a very short MOB?
@zoosermom , I finally had luck with a tea length Pisarro dress with 3/4 sheer sleeves. On me, the sleeves hit the wrist bone and the dress is about 1/2" from the floor in flats. On the model, the waist looked like it hit at or above her natural waist, while on me it hits just above the hips. I also found a Komarov dress that looked knee length on the model and is tea length on me. Its semi-sheer 3/4 sleeves also hit my wrists. I plan to wear it for the rehearsal dinner. It took a few tries on tea length dresses since they seem to vary in length 2" - 3" and were usually too long. I didn’t want to pay more for hemming than for the dress since they had two layers and the top layer was usually beaded.
Thanks Silpat!
This is excellent advice.
I did the same thing. There was a Komarov dress that was tea-length that I knew would be full length on me. It was perfect.
As a short person, you can sometimes buy a regular size dress – but be careful that the bottom of it is plain and can be shortened without ruining the lines of the dress.
@Runnersmom, that is stunning!! Love it.
Wow, some really nice looking dresses.
MOG wore navy (as did the bridesmaids) while I wore teal. I found my dress early. MOG wanted to lose weight and took her time finding a dress. She looked great. If I knew it would be OK to also wear navy, I may have found a navy dress instead - looks really good on the family pictures. But I didn’t ask, I just early on assumed to choose a different color than bridesmaids. Our family picture only included bride’s sister/ MOH in navy. But teal looks fine.
Runnersmom, I love the dress for you and I love the Ted Baker dress for your daughter. Ted Baker makes a really nice dress. My younger d wore one as a bridesmaid that she is now re-wearing as a wedding guest next month.
One of the other posters also has a lovely dress picked out. I had tried on those Nina shoes in Macy’s for the Komarov dress that I wore to my great-niece’s wedding but they weren’t comfortable for me.
Thanks all. I love the dress and a solid column is the best look for me. I wasn’t sure about the one-shoulder and ruffle, but it’s simple and elegant. Now all that’s left is shoes for D, picking up H’s suit and making sure S has checked off all the things on his to do list. T-3 weeks and counting…
This is a striking dress, if anyone is interested–bkackband floral.
Beautiful dress @HImom. My D tried it on, but the top seemed very out of proportion on a short-waisted busty girl.
It’s hard to know from the photo, but that would definitely nix it for me. I also prefer shoulders and sleeves. It photographed nicely.
I’m still looking for a baby pink dress. Oddly, the fall line at Lord and Taylor actually has some pink dresses in it. I didn’t see anything I particularly liked…but it’s fine. I have lots of time.
