MOB dress help needed!

@my-3-sons I like that purple dress. I think the soutache looks more elegant than some of the lace dresses.

@BunsenBurner - that’s a good point. I didn’t think of it.

I too like the dress @my-3-sons posted, especially the neckline.

I love that purple dress! Would love to get it for myself but I can’t think of anywhere I would wear it.

I really like that purple one. That color would be fine. But I think the V is a little low for me.

I’m going to NY in a week or so. I’m hoping I can try on…in the stores…some of these styles.

Ok…I just looked at the Ellen Tracy sizing guide for that dress. My bust is a size four…and my waist is a size 8. The 8 is what I would need to order…but the bust would be…3 inches too big.

It would need significant alterations to the size 8 top.

Also, I’m very high waisted…and this doesn’t come in a petite…which would, hit me in the waist better.

I’m going to wait…and try on some different styles, and dresses, and colors in NYC. And designers. I’ll write down what fits…and then go from there.

And NO, I do not want a two piece separates outfitt…skirt and top, or whatever. No.

I love that purple dress, too! I’d buy it in a heartbeat if my D would let me wear a short dress. :frowning:

@scout59 Love the use of the word “let.” My daughter had to have the last word on my dress. I actually was ok with that as she is brutally honest, and wouldn’t let me look bad! I picked out a bunch of dresses to order, she added more to the list; we both agreed on the dress I wore to her wedding.

The purple dress is beautiful - very classy. @thumper1 , the neckline should be fine on that dress - I don’t think it would be too low.

I am usually not a purple fan, but @my-3-sons that “violet” dress is gorgeous.

My neckline issue is not the lowness of the neckline…it’s that the whole upper part of the dress is going to be way too large…if I buy a size large enough to fit over my hips (size 8 bottom…size 4 top). The neckline and torso will need to be significantly altered to fit.

I love it…and f i see it in person…I will try it on…but I’m not wasting my time ordering a dress that I know won’t fit, and will need very significant alterations to fit.

Don’t know if this was ever referred to, but this popped up on my facebook vendors:

I also love that purple dress! Would love to try it for DD2’s April wedding but alas, they only have it in a size 6 :frowning:

@thumper1 – When you go to NYC, what stores are you planning to visit? I strongly advise Lord & Taylor. I think it’s their 5th floor; they have lots and lots and lots of long dresses.

I love the violet dress.
The pink dress to me looks salmon. I also think that sleeve length is hard to wear.

Neiman’s has Last Call with 30% off, 40% off with a NM credit card. Might be worth checking for those looking.

So any of you take into account what budget the other mother has. In my case I don’t want to go to expensive if the MOB has a budget of $100.00.
My friend who was the MOB was dealing with a MOG who shopped couture. My friend is wealthy and buys nice things felt like she needed to know what the MOG was wearing before she picked her dress.

@mom60 I hope if my D ever gets married that her MIL will be as sensitive and thoughtful as you!

I would not buy a “budget” dress just because the other party’s price limit is X. But I would buy a dress that does not scream “fancy label” - as I always do, so it will look like any other dress but will be made from quality fabric with quality craftsmanship. I refuse to throw money out of the window on cheaply made stuff that can only be worn once.

What I would definitely take into consideration is style and color. If the wedding is rustic chic, I will not show up in a formal gown. If the wedding is black tie, that is a different story.

Received my dress today. It is very snug FEELING, but does not LOOK tight. The lining has netting on it like a petticoat that makes the skirt stick out more than I want. I love the color and the length is perfect, but it’s probably going back.
