Great dresses! One more item checked off the list, ladies!!
Bumping this up…my dress arrived here today…alterations are perfect. You would never know the dress was altered. In fact…I looked at the size tag because I thought maybe they found a smaller size and just sent that. Dress fits perfectly…and I love it. Now on to shoes. When I tried the dress on today…I really need a low low heel shoe.
I’ll find something…I have lots of time!!
I want to thank everyone for their help here. I loved my dress and got tons of compliments. It was very comfortable also. I was so happy.
I wanted to say that once you are at the wedding, it doesn’t matter as long as you feel good in your dress and aren’t uncomfortable. All the talk about colors and styles, tbh it didn’t matter one bit.
The bridesmaids had purple dresses. The bouquets were gorgeous fall colors of purple and orange. I had a blue/gray dress with sparkles. The MOB had what I would call a dull red color dress. She worn sensible gray ballet flats. The guys worn gray tuxes. Who cared in the end. Everyone looked nice. My mom wore pants with a purple and gray jackets, she matched the bridesmaids. My mil wore a beautiful black dress. She looked wonderful.
I changed my profile picture to the very pretty bouquets at the wedding. If I wasn’t so bad at editing it would be a better picture lol
Pretty bouquet. Very fall.
Yes I was going to say that - very lovely bouquet. The florist did a good job. Hope your daughter is doing ok, deb.
I am trying to decide what kind of jewelry to wear with my dress. I was going to forgo a necklace because I figured I would have a corsage and a necklace would not be needed. I found out I will have a wrist corsage so my dress needs something. I was digging through my old jewelry just to see what length, etc, I liked and I found a box with some of my grandmother’s jewelry. She died ten years ago and I don’t remember keeping this jewelry. There is a beautiful double strand of iridescent beads with a rhinestone clasp! I think it will be perfect. It probably should be cleaned. Any ideas on what to use to clean it?
I love that bouquet!
So glad the dress fits perfectly Thumper!
@musicmom1215 How nice to have something from your grandmother with you on such a milestone day.
What are the beads strung with? It might be worth taking it to a jewelry store to put in one of their machines. I doubt it would cost much.
It appears they are strung with fishing line or something similar.
I’d start with dish detergent. jewelry cleaner is not good for lots of glass beads.
I’d start with a jeweler. Why risk it??
I m thinking no necklace with my dress…just a nice pair of earrings. I have good choices. The dress has some “bling” on the top…so no need for any more bling, I don’t think.
MOG and I decided we didn’t want or need any kind of corsage. Neither of us wants to have a corsage pinned to our dresses…and neither of us wants a wrist corsage. I did see one wrist one I sort of liked. It was a small strand of fake pearls wit two tea roses on it. Maybe that. Have to see if our florist does those…and if MOG wants something like that.
@thumper- your dress is beautiful. Love the necklines front and back. Agree that focusing on earrings is a good way to go when the dress has bling. Good feeling to have that part done with such a happy result.
I changed my profile pic to the corsage that I had. It was really pretty. 3 strands of pearls with orange roses and purple accents.
I didn’t want one either. It was suppose to be my moms but she insisted that I wear it. I got tons of compliments.
I am allergic to flowers. But the day of the wedding the flowers didn’t bother me. After the wedding unfortunately my H and I, our allergies went crazy. :((
@deb922 that courage is similar to the one I saw…but one strand of pearls…no very small tea roses. Maybe…maybe I would consider something like that. Maybe.
But really…I hated corsages at my proms! Can’t imagine I will like one better now.
Me too @thumper1 hated corsages. Really did not want one.
But weirdly once I was at the wedding it seemed appropriate.
Strange how I felt once I was at the wedding. Everything I felt was old fashioned or not in my personality, it just seemed right.
I had a nosegay at both sons’ weddings.
Neither MOB nor I carried bouquets or wore any sort of corsage - just our mutual preference. I think this is another one of those “whatever works for you is right” kind of things.
I have been the official corsage distributer in 2 of my nieces’ weddings. My very least favorite aunt task. Almost no one wants to wear them.
I found a little information on my grandmother’s iridescent beads that I found in my drawer. Apparently they are “lightweight plastic” and were all the rage in the late '50s. I also have her four-strand short necklace of similar beads that is really pretty and would look great with a V-neck dress. I am going to swish them around in warm water and Dawn just to freshen them a little.
