Although I don’t know what you look like in the dresses, I vote for #1.
I got my dress for D2’s wedding in May. I was shopping in Lord & Taylor and saw a few things in my size. I ended up getting exactly what I swore I never wood. It’s a strapless ball gown with a train. The fabric is taupe brocade with silver painted flowers. It’s going to need to have some taking in on the top as the neckline is straight and it’s a little too wide, but my D loves it, so . . .
I agree with Kelsmom, Dress # 1 is the winner.
I like #1 the best - it would look great with some sort of statement necklace. The lace one is, I think, too fussy. I think it ends up looking a bit dowdy. The one shoulder one is also quite nice, but I think that it would feel funny and drive me crazy. You also can’t really wear a necklace with it I don’t think.
Another vote for Dress #1 but I’d skip a necklace. I think the neckline provides good framing and can stand on its own. It also looks like a comfortable dress.
@zoosermom the dress sounds lovely. Can you share a link?
I’m leaning towards dress 1. It’s very comfortable and also looks good. The fabric drapes nicely and I think it would easily alter.
@mathmom - my friends, sister and D all felt the lace was dowdy. I liked it and felt comfortable in it and thought it looked nice but no one else agreed.
The one shoulder looks good on and it shows off the work I’ve been doing at the gym but I think it’s outside my comfort zone. I was surprised that the one shoulder isn’t annoying. The dress is well made and the arm stays up.
@mom60 here is the dress. It’s full length on me and I’m planning to put very narrow straps on it.
@mom60 I think you should keep looking, even though you like all 3 dresses, there are none you love. Since it seems that you like different styles, maybe it won’t be hard to find another dress everyone loves.
I thought it was important to have a dress that photographed well, since the pictures live on. The dress I decided on I loved and it photographed well. I bought a lot of dresses.
Great and gorgeous dress @zoosermom
@mom60, I like dress #1, as well, but I would never be comfortable in something that low cut. I wore a one-shoulder dress to my S’s wedding in September and it was completely comfortable, but I can see how others might not think so. @zoosermom, I’ve seen that dress in person and it’s gorgeous - congratulations on wrapping this up so early!
@zoosermom, a friend wore that dress to her daughter’s wedding in Oct…gorgeous!
Gorgeous dress zoosermom! Strapless is tough, they have to be so tight to stay up well so the straps will save you a bit of worry.
Mom60 - I like the first one best too. I just started looking around for dresses for my D’s wedding in April. Frankly, I’ve been dreading it. I haven’t really hit the stores yet besides one small shop in my neighborhood. I wonder how many we will buy and return before we decide?
Here are 2 I have in my bag, waiting for Black Friday sales to see if I should order them. D likes the first one better. It’s a garden wedding in late afternoon/evening so not real formal.

Since there is time, I would keep looking until I found one I LOVE @mom60, but it’s really up to you.
I really like the lace dress, but I seem to be an outlier!
I’ve always had mixed feelings about lace. My D has an adorable lace mini-dress that she wore to a wedding but I have never owned anything in lace. I have seen some nice lace things in store windows. What does the wedding couple think?
@greenwitch - I love that Eliza J dress.
@mom60 - if I were to pick, I would go with dress 1, but if you are not completely sure about it, it does not hurt to keep looking!
@mom60: I don’t care for the lace one, but not because of the lace – because of the sleeves. I don’t think they would do anyone any favors. YMMV.
As for the first one, the dress I just wore to S1’s wedding also had a deep plunge like that, although it was covered in illusion lace. I wore this bra, with the straps: https://www.herroom.com/fine-lines-rl029a-new-refined-plunge-bustier-bra.shtml
It was relatively comfortable and did what it needed to do. You could also wear the straps with Dress #1, if that’s what you decide to go with.
VH, you nailed it. I was thinking that the sleeves do not do dress number 2 any favors. Otherwise, it is a pretty dress.
@zoosermom that is a beautiful dress.
I like all 3 dresses a lot. I typically have a hard time finding a dress that fits so I’m pretty happy with finding three that could work. My fashionista friends have told me that this is the time of the year to look for that color. I just wish they were from Nordstrom so I could take my time deciding.
@VeryHappy - I’ll look into that bra. @runnersmom - I don’t have much on top and the deep V works on me. If anything I need to find a way to get some added padding in the bra area. I also think I could get a seamstress to add some illusion lace.
@greenwitch went to a wedding and the MOB wore a similar Komarov dress. They are beautiful but pricy. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the sales on the Saks and NM sites. Nordstrom not so much. Though Nordstrom has a much more generous return policy.
@zoosermom , love that dress!
@mom60 , I prefer dress #1, and @VeryHappy answered my only concern about it which was what the heck would one wear underneath it?! I also disliked the sleeves on the lace one: weird little bat wings!
@greenwitch , I infinitely prefer the Komarov dress. The other one is neither fish nor fowl to me, and I dislike the way the lining or under-dress or whatever it is looks on the top, because at first, or even second, glance it looks like the model’s bra is showing. I really do not like visible bras.
@mom60: I like that bra because it is both deep plunge and push-up. And I agree that the illusion lace would be a good addition.
