MOB dress help needed!

@mom60 I like # 1 best.

@greenwitch I really like that Eliza J dress!

My sons fiancé’s Family is coming for Thanksgiving. The MOB is hesitant to look at dresses because she wants to see what the bridesmaids are wearing first. I think I will show her some ideas I had to get her thinking about it. I am waiting for her to take the lead on long, short, etc…

Another vote for dress 1.

@zoosermom I love that dress!

@zoosermom - rock that dress! B-)

@zoosermom: I love that dress because it’s soft, and a different color and fabric than most of us have chosen. I think it’s beautiful and unique.

Thank you! The fabric reminds me a lot of the vibe my D is going for.

@zoosermom , the dress is beautiful! I agree that straps are a good idea. (I will never get over busting the zipper on my strapless MOH dress because they had to make it so tight on top to keep it from sliding down.)

@greenwitch , my friend wore dress #1 for her son’s wedding - she looked great in it. I think #2 is really cool & different, though, and would be perfect for a garden wedding.

@zoosermom Love, love love that dress!

I’ve been following along and love all the ideas. D’s wedding is in early May. It’s an indoor/outdoor event with the ceremony taking place outside at sunset. The venue is California chic for lack of a better description.

From the get go I knew I didn’t want a very form fitting gown, and I didn’t want lace or beading. I like many of the dressed containing those that have been presented in this thread and would wear them for other occasions. But, for better or worse (ha) in my mind, at a wedding lace and beads belong on the bride. And, even though I’m good shape I’d feel the need to wear some sort of tummy control device if I were to sport a very form fitting gown. I want to be able to really enjoy the day and be fully present. The thought of spending it squished and squeezed into something makes me panic. Frankly, since the age of 30 I’ve refused to suffer for fashion…

And so the hunt began…

D and I were strolling thru Nordstrom Rack and she stumbled on this gown…

I was hesitant at first because it struck me as a bit prom-ish. But, it works so wonderfully well the the BM dresses, looks good on and the danged thing has pockets!!

After living with it in my closet for a few weeks I’ve come to like it very much and have said ‘yes’ to the dress :).

I’m going to have it altered so that the straps are more off the shoulder. The puffy tulle will be removed so that the skirt is not as full and I’m going to have the top part of the pockets and some of the pleats tacked down a bit so it’s more stream lined overt the hips. I’m also considering having an invisible elastic gusset sewn into the sides so that the bodice will give a bit if I decide to do something drastic - like breath. Still hunting for the right bra type setup. Again, the bra needs to be forgiving, allow me to breath and not be something which causes me to spend the day counting the minutes until I get to take it off.

Beautiful dress, @dietz199! I’m partial to that designer (wore another one to my S’s wedding) and think it will look amazing with the modifications you describe. Making the straps more off-the-shoulder will, though, make the bra hunt more difficult, I’m afraid.

@dietz199, that dress is gorgeous! Perfect for your setting, IMO.

Nice dress and great price.

That’s a lovely dress.

I’m going to ask the seamstress if she can sew either cups or a version of an underwire into the dress.

At the risk of TMI…the girls actually don’t need truss level support but I plan to dance and don’t want to have an unacceptable level of bounce.

Zoosermom…The dress is awesome.

Dietz- like that dress also.

I like the Komarov dress a lot but think the first one is too bridesmaid looking.

Dietz–love the dress!

I had cups sewn in to my dress for D’s wedding…worked like a charm…and I have ummm…ample girls. No bounce problem.

Thanks for the support everyone! The dress colors are not what I normally would choose for myself. In fact, I would prefer something in the grey/silver spectrum - like zoosermom’s dress (yup, LOVE that one). But I asked D to be brutally honest and she was clear that grey just doesn’t work with her color scheme.

I’m looking a some coral hued shoes for the formal part of the day. My plan is to change into some fun comfy dance shoes later on. Did the same thing for my own wedding. It was the best of both worlds…great pictures…and a heck of a good time on the dance floor.

Comfy shoes for dancing are key! And with a floor length dress, anything goes as long as your “picture” shoes aren’t too high! I got some big laughs from the photographer when she noticed my Cons under my gown, and they made for an incredibly comfortable dance party.

I love that dress @dietz199 ! I think that’s a very flattering style and love the assymetrical design of the torso. It would never have occurred to me to mess with the straps, but I can see that it might make the dress look a little more sophisticated. Good luck with the alterations!

Ah yes…shoes. You may all remember my lavender dress…with a tiny bit of bling. I have two pairs of cute strappy heeled Silver sandals to choose from in my closet…and a really cute pair of brushed Silver flats to wear for dancing that are very comfy.

But then…I have six more months…so I might find something better!!

I made an appointment with a personal stylist at Nordstrom for my MOG dress (wedding is in August). I will let you know how it goes. I am a sporty gal who does not go to a lot of formal events, and I want to look great, so I decided I need professional help.

I’ve used a personal stylist at Nordie’s three times. Twice, she scored home runs. (We’ll forgive the third time.) It’s very helpful – you wind up trying on things you might never have thought of otherwise.
