I went to my appointment at Nordie for MOG dress for August wedding. No decision yet. I tried on this dress in Mauve https://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/eliza-j-embellished-cutout-taffeta-sheath-dress-regular-petite/4189297?cm_mmc=email_tran--011518--order_confirm-_-proddescr2&cm_em=
And I really liked it and it looked good, but I want to try charcoal, so we ordered it and I will go back next week. The stylist thinks charcoal isn’t a summer color. Does that matter? Bridesmaids are wearing navy and the men are wearing black tuxes. My daughter is a bridesmaid and my other son is best man.
I like the charcoal color very much. Pretty dress
If the fabric on that dress looks as interesting in real life as it does in the photos, I think it’s a great choice. I don’t think you have to wear pastels just because it’s summer.
I love that dress and am considering it for my D’s August wedding! You will have other occasions to wear it.
Which color @Massmomm ?
Consider me in the MOB dress hunt as well these days. I want to wait until April/May to order anything (have lost some weight and want to try to stay on my current diet/exercise regime to see what happens by then!). But am clicking on everyone’s links and tracking sites to watch. Looking for a knee or tea length dress with some kind of sleeve. Bridesmaids in navy and groomsmen in gray suits. I look good in blues (and, like @thumper1, pink – like, pastel/baby pink, not coral or peach).
That charcoal is really a silvery gray. It will fine with the rest of the wedding party!
I finally found 2 dresses I loved at Dillards and they were both on sale so I got them. I wish I could include links but they aren’t on the web site. Alternatively, the dresses that ARE on Dillards web site that I looked for in the store were nowhere to be found! Still, they had a big selection so I am very relieved.
Sigh. No Dillards stores in my state, unfortunately.
@intparent honestly…I think Lord and Taylor has the best selection of dresses at a wide variety of price points. If you can get to the NYC store, the fifth floor is chocked full of special occasion dresses of every kind…and every length. The sales are terrific…and if you find something that needs alterations like I did…it was a rousing $25 to get them done. And the dress I got is a perfect fit because of those alterations.
We also checked out Macy’s flagship store. I usually hate Macy’s because it’s a huge mess… up their main NYC store was really nice…and they also have a couple of floors of dresses. Again…a variety of price points.
Have fun!
Well. I live in Washington state with no plan to be in NYC any tine soon. I will be in DC in March, and maybe D1 and I will do some shopping then. And I will keep Lord & Taylor on my list for sure. And agree that I’ve had some good luck with dresses at Macy’s in the past. I kind of hate shopping there, but anything for the right MOB dress…
@tx5athome , that dress is fabulous in charcoal. I wish I could wear a dress like that! More power to you, I say.
Thoughts?

@Madison85 I tried that on today, and it was very pretty.
@Madison85, it’s lovely, but I wonder whether the slit skirt might be a problem for dancing.
Assuming it isn’t slit any higher than it shows, I think it would be great for dancing.
What a gorgeous dress! On my computer at least I think it looks best in charcoal and navy, though I think a model with darker skin might look good in the two lighter colors. Given that the wedding colors aren’t particularly summery, I think the charcoal would be perfect.
When I was looking for dresses, I also kept in mind that I didn’t want to stick out like a sore thumb in the pictures. Bridesmaids are wearing slate blue. Guys are wearing grey slacks and light blue shirts, and vests. DH will wear a grey suit…same color as the guys slacks. I had two gorgeous navy dresses…but really…in the pictures, I would have looked like a big dark blot. Plus, I look better in my lavender! It’s lighter and will mix in with others better than the navy would.
I wore a similar charcoal to S’s August wedding and did not feel the least bit “out of season”. Pretty dress!
The charcoal color is so sparkly and very silvery. Beautiful color.
I’m not in the market for a MOB dress (that was last year), but I just want to say how happy I am to see that we’re back to dress shopping on this thread. Its a fun break from the winter doldrums and I love checking out everyone’s exquisite sense of style and design.
