MOB dress help needed!

Following along with interest.

Will need a MOB dress for early summer. Does anyone know how bling behaves in photos? Our daughter’s gown has some pearls, lace and slightly reflective elements in a mermaid silhouette. I am looking for a gown for a formal evening wedding. I want elegance and simplicity; perhaps achieved by quality of fabric and silhouette. The bridesmaids will be wearing deep ocean blue gowns (dark teal or dark peacock), the tuxes are black and white, and wedding gown details dictate silver accessories. (Flattering tones for me are raspberry, blues, silvers/light grays; have to avoid peach, orange, yellows and greens.) May well prefer my bling to come from jewelry and accessories, rather than the dress.

Any thoughts on how achieve evening elegance? Any experience with photos of “blingy” outfits at weddings? Ignorant of how much of a variable beading, sequins, etc are. Thanks.

@travelnut, when my S got married last September I knew I didn’t want bling on the dress. MOB felt the same way. This was an evening wedding and we both wore long. My dress is in here somewhere, but it was a one-shoulder navy dress with an architectural bow on the shoulder. The dress did not work with a necklace, so my “bling” was in earrings and bracelets. I think the key is to try on a wide selection and see what “speaks” to you, and won’t fight your D’s dress. I think the right style and fabric can give you the same impact as bling.

Raspberry was on the list of colors my S and his fiancé wanted for MOG and MOB. I found that it’s a fall color but many of the dresses are sleeveless and could be worn in summer. I had the best luck with Saks and Neiman Marcus online. I don’t have a lot of places to,shop in my city and I found shopping online and filtering by length and color worked great. I also found that looking for a raspberry or burgundy dress I had to filter both reds and pinks.

We saw a ton of pictures from our photographer! Lots of nice dresses with a lot of bling. He knew how to handle those!

My dress has a little bling. I think it’s elegant.

I’ve also seen some gorgeous gowns in silk or satin…that are quite elegant. Friend just bought a gorgeous silver dress with a little bling on the top and a solid satin skirt…very elegant.

@tx5athome , the navy. She hasn’t picked her colors yet, but navy blue is in the running. The only issue is that my entire wardrobe is navy and I am a little tired of it.

Lord and Taylor is having an awesome sale. Use the code LTLOVE and get an extra 20% off. I also received free ship on this dress, final cost $83.60 (including local tax):

I was MOB in 2016 but have an occasion to wear this dress. Thanks for the original L&T dress post (that silver strapless is now only available in size 6 and lower price).

Very pretty and feminine, @SOSConcern

This is a great site for a semi-custom dress. You pick the pattern and dress you like, but then you can add or subtract sleeves, change the neckline and change the length. Not a ton that is formal but still a good resource.

I really like that dress, @SOSConcern. So festive!

@greenwitch and others, has anyone tried eshakti? I love the concept and website but we had bad experiences with online ordering for D’s bridesmaid dresses from a company in China. I realize this company is in India.

There are quite a few negative reviews on eshatki. I love the concept but it seems there are issues with fit and refunds and even customs charges. I would research before deciding for folks contemplating ordering. If anyone did buy, please let me know—I am intrigued.

MOG is ordering from them so I’ll let you all know!

I just received this dress: https://www.sundancecatalog.com/product/71411.do. It is perfect and meets all of my criteria-upper arm coverage, just below the knee, and light weight. It is definitely pricier than I had planned on, but I was getting desperate after ordering and returning at least 15 dresses. The wedding will take place outside on a bluff in Tucson in April and then will move into a barn and patio area. I wanted something that was not so formal, but still unique. Fortunately, this is even better in person than in the pictures and flatters my “curvy” figure. Now for the shoes…

@takeitallin - I love that dress. I love the Sundance catalog but what saves me is it’s all so expensive that I really think about what I buy from them.

Very pretty @takeitallin. It does look like a great dress for Tucson

Very pretty and perfect for the setting!

@mom60 I agree about the prices. Sundance is expensive and I rarely shop there, but this time I was desperate enough that I almost didn’t care about the price. I sort of dread getting their catalogs because it never fails that whatever my eye is drawn to will be the most expensive item on that page.

Neiman Marcus has extra 20% sale on sale items, some items free ship and free returns. Can sort by your dress size, so pretty easy to go through and see if anything is of interest. Depending on size and what appeals - might find something…if not for wedding attire, for something else! I also shopped Lord and Taylor, clicked on dresses for sale 40%. Bought off both. Sprucing up my wardrobe.
