Bumping this thread because S2’s wedding is next February, in Puerto Rico, where the bride is from.
She wants me, her mother and her sister (MOH) to wear flowy, tropical flower prints, very bright and cheerful. I just bought this dress: https://yumikim.com/dream-silk-floral-maxi-dress.html and the bride loves it.
It’s the first one I ordered, and it might be The One. Weird, since for S1’s wedding last October, I ordered and returned probably 30 dresses.
It is very beautiful, probably would look very good on you. I love that blue.
I know your DIL wants people to wear floral dress because it is very tropical looking, but for the wedding there will be a lot of group pictures taken, and I am just wondering if it would look too busy with everyone wearing floral print (maybe that’s what she is going for?).
For D1’s wedding, I asked immediate family women to wear one solid color.
My SIL got married when Laura Ashley florals were all the thing. I love the photos from that wedding. I think we’ve gone a little overboard in the other direction. When I look at wedding photos so many look just the same.
So many wedding photos look the same because most photographers take front face shots with people standing still. They don’t take side or movement shots - like people walking, looking down or looking at each other. It is hard to find such photographers.
Wow, that’s beautiful @VeryHappy! I wish I’d seen that line when searching for a dress like that for my D last year! @oldfort, my DIL asked her bridesmaids to wear floral dresses of their own choosing and I was sure the pictures were going to be awful – so busy. However, I was wrong. It just all looked very pretty and, well, floral! No two were the same and the backgrounds ranged from navy to cream to pink. Somehow, it all worked together.
Oh year there are a lot of boring photographers too! I told my photographer that I wanted him to take a picture of everyone at the wedding. We have a couple of the whole group walking from the part of campus where we got married to the faculty club where the reception was. We were all holding balloons and I love that picture!
Hope the rest of the family likes VeryHappy’s dress!
I’m always kind of bemused by the degree to which things at weddings seem to be done for the photos. (No criticism of you implied, oldfort.) On the other hand, we didn’t have a photographer at all–my mother’s one task, and she fell down on the job–and it would have been nice to have SOME professional photos.
I chose a lighter color dress for my kiddo’s weddings because navy (my first choice) would have stuck out like a sore thumb in the pics…where everyone was in lighter colors. And truthfully, I LOVED my lavender dress anyway!
I wore a royal blue dress for D’s wedding, and I don’t usually wear colors like that. I got a ton of compliments. I am sure you will, as well, @VeryHappy , with your dress choice.
DS’s wedding was on Saturday. I like to wear navy but the bridesmaids wore navy so I wore a port colored (maroon?) dress which I ended up loving. The MOB wore kind of a lavender/grey. I don’t think I ever posted my dress. I had gotten a charcoal grey short dress, but I took pictures at home and it looked kind of shiny and I decided I wanted something a little more romantic. https://www.bhldn.com/bridal-party-bridesmaid-dresses/selina-dress-port/productoptionids/54f624cd-4ca0-4f58-bc97-9048f5cd1f32 I have seen an almost identical dress at White House Black Market.
@Consolation - I don’t take it as such because I have only heard regrets from people of not having enough/right photos, but never the other way around. I used to hate it when my brother would spend a long time taking pictures of us whenever we had get togethers. Now, I am really glad he did.
The photographers took a lot of pictures at D1’s wedding, but I still wished I had more pictures with my friends. I should have thought of it.
