MOB dress help needed!

Nvm

@CottonTales: That’s very glam!! I don’t have any cutlet suggestions, but once you have it in hand, go to your local lingerie specialty store with the dress and they should be able to handle it.

@Consolation: Those suggestions are giving me some additional ideas. Thanks.

I like those tulle skirts @Consolation but I’d prefer them in a shorter length for the thing I’m going to.

I like the options on BHLDN. A little different from all the department store stuff.

This is the first time ever I’ve heard chicken cutlets used in this context. I always learn something new from CC.

Cottontales, I prefer the original Nubra.

I have always found Maggie London to be my style. It’s less “fussy” and more tailored, which is my preference. All the dresses linked on this thread are lovely. I’m not a sequins person not bhldn person but can see how those outfits would be perfect for the right person.

Thanks, @C3Baker and @Consolation, for the encouraging words. I really think I’m going to stick with the dress because it’s comfortable and I feel good in it. The shoes are another story. But I agree w/ @VeryHappy - zappos is terrific for choice and online service. If I can’t find something there, the chances aren’t good for finding it elsewhere.

I hate to out myself as a shoe know-nothing, but … what color shoes would you wear with my dress, either in champagne or in dove gray? Here it is again: http://www.dillards.com/p/alex-evenings-sequined-lace-rosette-rose-gown/504913852?di=04332008_zi_eggplant&categoryId=410&facetCache=pageSize%3D96%26beginIndex%3D0%26orderBy%3D1

I think I’d do gold with the champagne and silver with the dove grey. The sequins make me think metallic for each of them.

Agree with @runnersmom, although a copper toned metallic shoe would also work well with champagne color.

@frazzled1 I love that dress…I tried it on in the blue…and it looked quite awful on me. I’m just not the right build, for a sheath dress!

Shoes…oy!

At this point, I’m up to three dresses hanging in my closet for my DDs wedding in May 2018.

I figure it will take me a year to find comfortable shoes…that look good…that I like. Oh…and that I can walk in with out tripping.

@CottonTales I LOVE that dress!

Been reading with interest…we’re about 100 days out and I’ve gotta say I never thought my dress would be so problematic. I’m on first name basis with UPS driver. Have had 27 dresses (ha!) shipped, as I was not finding much in person. This season, I’ve found black, navy, blush or champagne are the major colors. No on black, blush and champagne look washed out on me. Love Navy! Found two winners. Bride asked me not to because the bridesmaids dresses are navy. Sigh. Bridesmaids were here last week and I did fashion show. The dress they all picked: blush pink. Hmmm. It fits me well, but just not wowed by color.

Need knee length. Don’t want to look too Mother of Bride-ish/Matronly, but don’t want to look like a Vegas floozie/party girl either. And of course, MOG found hers two months ago. Dang. In desperation, went to very $$$ store. I did find one awesome dress in a great color, great fit…but just can’t force myself to buy a dress that costs more than I spent on the bride’s dress!

H, who hasn’t been in a store in 5 years, was quite happy helping me return the rest of dresses. So was my credit card/bank account  . The blush will be okay…I guess. Still keeping my eye out for THAT dress.

Glad you found at least a dress that looks and fits well. Will keep fingers crossed that all on this thread find great dresses and shoes!

Just keep in mind, “it’s a dress”! The day/night, the enjoyment of your guests, the words and hugs exchanged with everyone - those things will make your memories. Unless you just really want to, don’t overthink and spend hours and money on end for a few hours of wear. Be you.

  • signed, untraditional MOG June 16

I hear you @abasket. But at the end…the only thing folks will, have to look back on…the pictures! I don’t want to look grumpy in the pictures. We have an awesome photographer…but still…

Right now, I have two navy floor length dresses, and one silver/grey/taupe knee length. I like them all. I figure by the time the wedding really happens in a year, I could have a few more in my closet! Heck…I’ll eBay or consign the ones I don’t wear.

@frazzled1 , are you sure I couldn’t persuade you to go for the Wisteria instead?

@gosmom: Can you post a link of the favored dress?

@Consolation - I do like the Wisteria. It’s very pretty!

@gosmom, if you wind up having to wear the blush pink, the right makeup can help keep you from washing out. Perhaps a pre-wedding day Sephora session is in order?

Where is this wisteria dress??

It’s the one in the link but you have to go to the Wisteria (lavender) bubble to view.
