MOB dresses for both daughters' weddings

Does she still wear dresses? My mother gave them up completely in her 70s. She wore pants with a nice top to the last wedding she attended.

Yes, I’ve looked at Talbots. Mom really wants sleeves. She gets so cold that she will likely wear a sweater and sleeves.

Pants are actually harder to fit on her than dresses (the length of a dress can vary a bit more than the length of pants.)

But thanks for your comments.

My mom also stopped wearing dresses. She had a couple of nice, comfortable pairs of slacks that were just right with the right top for special occasions. My mom was also always cold. She had some nice jackets too.

I agree with the alteration idea. Is there someone near your mom who you could take her to to have a dress altered to fit well?

Any updates you care to share with any new dresses that might have arrived in the mail?

Yes, I have wanted to update you guys as a lot has transpired since my last post. Hopefully will find time tomorrow. Had been working on D2’s wedding and several dresses are due to arrive any day for that. Learned a lot tonight unexpectedly about D1’s wedding and totally switching gears on that one due to learning lots more tonight. I’ll be back with the latest!

Here is what I am trying to talk my mom into wearing. http://www.dillards.com/p/alex-evenings-petite-3-4-sleeve-scalloped-lace-tiered-sheath-dress/505806484?di=04581683_zi_cobalt&categoryId=410&facetCache=pageSize%3D26%26beginIndex%3D104%26orderBy%3D1

Missypie, that is a great choice. When I am her age, I’m totally wearing something like that. I can wear it now if I had an occasion. Hope it fits.

I love that dress, @missiepie! Hope your mom does too!

I am visiting now and brought it to her. The dark color and texture does a good job of hiding the lumps and bumps of 82. Glad you like it!

I love that dress too @missiepie !

Thanks, everyone. I will say that getting Mom into Petites has made all the difference. (I don’t know if I mentioned it, but she has shrunk from 5’6" to 5’2".)

soozie…I am also bigger on top and proportionately smaller on the bottom. When shopping for my D’s wedding the Nordstrom workers were fabulous! I thought I needed a 16 dress for my bust but they fit me in a 14W and then had the seamstress pin it smaller through waist and hips, to a size 10. I was amazed at the difference! Tailoring makes all the difference.

^ learned the same thing at Nordstrom flagship Chicago store ( one of four in US) I am 12/14 on top and 10 in hips- stylist was wonderful and this explains problems I’ve been having. Challenging.

@NorthMinnesota what style dress would you say is best to look for then have altered ???
FYI for those needing a Demi cup bra the stylist’s recommendation Chantelle.

I promise to be back with updates…lots has evolved on this front.

It’s great that you decided to try Nordstrom and also get the alterations to help you look great. I have used good seamstresses sometimes with great success. Would definitely consider it again for a major event.

Macys extended friends and family 25% another day

I have been dress shopping also and have about 12 dresses from Macy’s and nordstroms at my house. I also tried a bunch on at nordstroms. I really found that showing some skin looks best on my large bust. As much as I like the look of a higher neckline I really need the v or scoop neck To break up the bust area

I was surprised when I liked a keyhole neckline.
You could also consider the midi length. I find it flattering and super comfortable

@happymom26 care to share some that you find working for you. I am trying to order from macys now, with friends and family, curious what you are liking.

I am thinking about this for son’s September wedding. Evening. bridesmaids in long black chiffon. http://www.dillards.com/p/lauren-ralph-lauren-floral-burnout-gown/506021550

Gorgeous dress! Go for it.
