MOB dresses for both daughters' weddings

@alwaysamom Thank you. I’m on the train back to Boston and just having a chance now to reply. Yes, one of the joys for my daughter being cast in this particular show was the fact that it takes place at a theater where a show she was obsessed with for years as a child got its start there. In fact, at the opening night party, when meeting people from that theater, I told them so! I enjoyed the show very much and all the talent in it. I’m going to be back for the closing night when that D’s future in-laws are going to NYC to see it and to get together with me. D has been fortunate so far to work with several theaters she always has wanted to and has some projects down the pike with others that are meaningful in this regard.

UPDATE:

It’s been a whirlwind a two days in NYC, all fabulous, and I’m on my way home but have to go straight to other jobs as soon as I arrive and then be at Harvard at 6 AM tomorrow morning to secure a seat at the graduation and then there are all the celebratory events for that which will take place. So, I am booked very solidly and thought I would drop a note here while on the train now.

D1’s wedding was perfect in every way and just what they wanted. They had a full day and night of events planned in NYC (and had been having a great time for three days in the city leading up to it). I did get the updo because my D wanted that very specifically, even though I prefer my longish hair down. D2 and I had a hair and make up session in the morning with the hair/make up person who did my D2 in her previous Off Broadway show.

The ceremony was at City Hall in NYC. When D1 and her fiancé arrived, I cried. They looked stunning. Radiant. Gorgeous in their attire. Truly, my daughter looked so pretty. She doesn’t typically wear any make up but did for this. She has long hair but had an updo that was very cool in the back, with braiding above the nape of her neck. She work an ivory silk dress to the knee with ivory shoes (Manolo Blahnik, which is very atypical for her). The flower bouquets were so pretty. They had a photographer who shot photos of them all morning getting ready and then did the ceremony. After the ceremony, we did photo shoots outside. I was so happy that the weather, which had called for showers, didn’t rain at all for the afternoon. After that photo shoot, the couple went on their own with their photographer to Central Park for lots of photos. I spent the time with D2 and her fiancé. Then, we had a celebratory dinner at Margeaux at The Marlton Hotel where the couple was staying. The dinner was in a solarium and kinda felt like being in Europe and not NYC. The food was great and the dinner was lively and meaningful. The couple wanted us to prepare various things for it that had meaning and all these things were shared by each of us, along with champagne toasts and all that. It was delightful. They were so happy. Then we all parted, and the newlyweds had late night reservations to high end sushi place to top off their evening. I don’t really have pictures yet, because they wanted me to not take any since they had a photographer. I couldn’t be happier for my daughter. Tomorrow is the Harvard graduate degree graduation and Friday they are off to several countries in Asia for 2.5 weeks.

Lastly, I brought the lead grey beaded dress I had ordered as a possibility for D2’s wedding in September, down to NYC to show her (she lives there). She didn’t like it because she said it had “too much bling.” I don’t mind, but it was rather ironic since the two dresses she had me order were also beaded (and looked more blingy because they had contrasting beading, whereas the grey dress had beading the same color as the dress). I mentioned this curiosity to her and she said she didn’t realize these details when she had looked at the dress links, which she likely did very quickly given her intense schedule lately. So, I’m going to start my dress hunt for her Sept. wedding over and stay away from beading generally speaking and also nothing with gold. She actually liked that Sundance dress I shared here that I wore to her show opening on Monday night, but honesty, I don’t think that is dressy enough for a nighttime wedding and am considering wearing it to her rehearsal dinner though. I’ve got time and can run dresses by you guys again when I get to it!

Sounds like a terrific wedding weekend!!!

Great update - lovely days

Congrats - glad the weather cooperated! It’s hot today!

Sounds like it was wonderful! Congratulations to all.

I bet the updos looked great!

Sounds wonderful!! Plus I read the review of your daughter’s show… nice mention!!
I too am an old timer on CC and I recall d2’ s dreadful accident… but that is long in the past. We’ll be here for the dress shopping part two…
Mazel Tov again and good wishes to all…

OK, ladies…I was sorta on a lull on the MOB dress shopping for D2’s September wedding. I had D1’s wedding in late May. I kept looking online as new inventory came out on various sites. I bookmarked a bunch of dresses. Previously, I kept my searches to dresses that had some sort of sleeve, though this time I opened it up to sleeveless, even though I truly prefer a bit of sleeve. But I didn’t want to limit the search too much, given other parameters. In terms of colors, I still considered gold, because even though D said that her color scheme for the bridal attendants is wine and gold, they are each going to buy their own choice of dresses in the deep red/wine/burgundy color way and gold is an accent color. I figured if I wore any gold it would be OK, D is now saying no gold on the dress (so that knocked out either gold dresses or ones with gold trim or embroidery, etc.). So, burgundy, gold, or ivory are off limits.

I sent D2 links of my new search of bookmarks. Her schedule is such that she did not have time to go through the email. However, I visited her in NYC last weekend to get together also with her future in-laws who came in from Ohio, and to see her in her final performance of the show she was in at the time. We sat down and went over the links. She knocked a bunch out. I do want her to like whatever I wear and so it matters to me that she is in on the selection. There were several dresses in Navy, and at first, she was saying, no, navy is also out because I think it is a color that groomsmen will be wearing! I’m like, uh, with all these restrictions, plus my size and shape, I’m gonna run out of options! I didn’t see why it would matter if guys were wearing a navy suit. She asked her fiancé who said it was fine with him and so now navy is OK, LOL.

I had found some vintage style dresses that I like but are tea length and up until now, I focused on knee length. Turns out that my D really liked these vintage tea length dresses. She thinks they will be flattering on me. I like them (at least online), though never wear tea length (did several years ago, but not in a long while).

So, I just ordered two of the vintage type style dresses in tea length and one knee length Tadashi Shoshi dress. I didn’t end up posting the links of my new round here since already D nixed a bunch of them. But here is what is on order:

Oh, and I should mention that I really like this Elie Tahari dress a bunch, but I can’t risk it because it is only on pre-order and available to ship Sept. 14 and the wedding is Sept. 25. So, we agreed that I would forego it:

On a side note, also last weekend, D1 came over to my place to show me all her wedding photos they got back from the photographer from their May NYC wedding. They were so gorgeous! They also did a photo shoot after the ceremony in Central Park and got some incredible shots. I’m gonna have to go through them again with her and get a bunch.

Also, last weekend, went to D2’s wedding venue for brunch with D’s future in-laws. I had been there before, but this was really nice and we ate outside right on the water. It is such a lovely venue for their wedding!

Soon, did you go directly to the elie tahari website? They have so many pretty dresses.

I really like the Tahari dress.

@bookworm Yeah, I went right to the Elie Tahari site after seeing the dress online at Saks (I think) and not in my size and so I found it on the designer’s own site which is the link I posted. I do like that dress a lot. I don’t have great arms and so was trying for some sleeve, but have opened my search to include such dresses. I do wear sleeveless sundresses and short sleeve dresses and tank tops in summer, but I know it is likely not my best look. This wedding is in late September and so I was trying for a sleeve but so many dressy dresses don’t have sleeves.

My 2 favorites - by a wide margin - are the 2 Nataya dresses in the first two links. I think they are elegant. 1st one is my top choice.

Thanks gals! I was drawn to the first Nataya dress and honestly, I am very into navy and white and my apartment is decorated in that color scheme! But I decided to also try a different style dress from their line and in the color chosen. We’ll see. I’ll update you when I get them and try them on!

Oy, my post 291 is a mix up. I got my designers confused. I got the Tadashi Shoshi dress on the designer’s own site.

The Elie Tahari site doesn’t have the dress I Iike by this designer that I found on Saks’ site…where it is only available for pre-order Sept. 14 to ship. I did a google search to see if it is available anywhere else and no is the answer. So, while I do like that Tahari dress a LOT, I can’t risk waiting until latter September to try out the dress since the wedding is a week after that.

That first dress is lovely, but why did they have to ruin it with the stupid hilo skirt?!!! Why?!!! That type of hem looks good only on very tall, slender people. Sigh.

@soozievt, I was thinking of you as I was looking through the dresses at Nordstrom Rack. I assume you’ve checked there? They have some great deals.

Of this latest group, I think the Tadashi dress is a winner. It seems like a much finer dress to me and their dresses are usually very lovely and well made.

The Tadashi dress is very dramatic. I like it as well. My big issue is how much care any of these dresses require (e.g. pressing), as they will be transported to get to the wedding from where @soozievt lives.

The description says “neoprene” - I doubt wrinkling will be a problem for this dress.
