@soozievt sometimes a size 16 IS a plus size. It depends on the store, and the dress maker.
You know…if it fits, and you like it, that’s all that matters. No one is going to look at your dress size label!!
I know you want a dress, but I would suggest you at least try on a dress with jacket. The full length ones look like those traditional MOB dresses…but knee length doesn’t, in my opinion.
We have a very wealthy friend who just got her MOB dress from Steinmart…mail order. She picked a few dresses…ordered two sizes of each. None were more than $100
@thumper1 I don’t truly care what the size label says. I was just commenting that “Regular” sizing in many dresses goes up to size 16 (sometimes just to 14 actually). And sometimes “Regular” goes up to size 18. Most of the dresses that appealed to me are size 16 and didn’t go up to 18. But I am a size 16 overall, but the bust could be an issue depending on how it runs. Plus sizes typically are size 16W, 18W, 20W, etc. or 1X, 2X, 3X. I was simply saying that all of my clothing has been in the Regular sizing. And there are typically more options in Regular sizes. That was all I meant.
@BunsenBurner I had not heard of Saks Off 5th and just looked at their site. Wow, great prices and lots of choices. I’ll remember to keep checking there generally speaking.
Sooz…if you are looking for a road trip…there is a Off Saks store at the Wrentham outlets off 495 on the way to Cape Cod. At least there used to be one! Of course…you never know whTs going to be in the actual outlet store!
Soozievt - congrats ( I remember when your daughter (s) applied to colleges!
I’m a mother of the groom in early July, Chicago, and heading to Nordstrom tomorrow for first time.
I’ve been reading this thread, and others, and spending so much time looking online, getting dizzy. I like your selections. Please let us know how you like them after you get them.
@jym626- your wedding dress, will be the bridesmaid dresses in my son’s wedding, my daughter just picked hers up, royal blue, and looks perfect. Excellent dress.
@jym626 Thanks once again. First dress would not be good for me. That little jacket thing would accentuate the boobs. Second dress just is too ordinary for me. Also, Ivory is out, though it comes in black. I already own dresses not all that different from that.
I tend to be an online/catalogue shopper (as I said, after spending 33 years in rural VT!), but didn’t know about Saks Off 5th and thanks for telling me there is one right in Assembly Row. I haven’t shopped at Assembly Row, but I live in Cambridge, and so it is close by.
@Hanna thanks for sharing about your mom. She sounds like someone who follows her own style. Good for her. Congrats on getting married!
@SouthJerseyChessMom (I grew up in South Jersey!)…yeah, I have been on CC for a LONNNNNG time, about 14 years! I haven’t yet ordered all the dresses I was considering. So far, I just ordered one for each occasion and will see after that. Also, would like to hear D2’s input. I’ll update you guys though.
Funny that Jym’s dress is your D’s bridesmaid dress. It really is a pretty dress in various colors. And thanks for the link. I’m not that fond of many of those dresses because they either seem so “MOB” to me and/or they are mainly mid-calf length. I tend to wear dresses to just above the knee, or to the knee, give or take.
@SouthJerseyChessMom - I hope they enjoy the dress. It’s comfortable and it has pockets!
Several of the dept store have outlets. In addition to Off 5th, Neimans has one. (Called last call) and there is Nordstrom Rack. And of course there is last Filene’s Basement, which came back from the dead.
