MOB/MOG shoes

I got some good ideas from the old wedding shoes thread, but a lot of the links are too old, and the thread is closed. Here’s my question. What do you all think about gold sandals vs. black sandals for a summer wedding? The dress is long, but shoes will show; it’s royal blue with embroidery in various colors including gold and black. The dress was pictured in the ad with high-heeled, black strappy sandals. I see lots of pictures of similar dresses with metallic shoes. My mom suggests gold. I don’t want the heels to be too high so at first I was leaning towards gold as being fancier, even in a lower shoe, but then sometimes I think that gold looks sort of too fancy. Or, in low heels, too old-ladyish. What do you think?

or does something like this in black seem OK for summer? I don’t love how my feet look, so I’m looking for sandals that have more coverage or else a shoe like this:

I think all of your options are very appropriate. Personally I would go with what feels the most comfortable!

It would be helpful to see the dress!

I don’t know but somehow I’m not a fan of the gold shoes - I would personally never wear them - they seem sort of “flashy”. I think I would prefer a black sandal - keep your dress the statement piece not your shoes.

But that’s me and I’m not someone to wear flashy or sparkle in anyway.

I would pick gold or flesh (aka nude) color shoes instead of black. Those Clarks are nice but they have a silver stripe, and to me, the closed toe and suede say “early fall” instead of “summer.”

I like the shape of the black shoe, but in the summer unless your dress is very dark, I’d try to find something similar in a lighter color. I have flatter sandals like the first three you posted and I think they look festive. If the dress is long, I doubt anyone will spend much time staring at your feet. And probably not even if the dress is short. I would absolutely go with the shoe that you will actually be willing to wear for six hours, otherwise you are going to be going around in bare feet. (Or at least I would be.)

I would wear footwear I could walk AND dance in. I’ve seen the entire wedding party and some guests kick off their shoes once the dancing started. Some switched to ballet-style flats for females while others just stayed barefoot. I’m nervous about possibly getting cut from broken glass or debris barefoot at night.

I am hoping to get something I can walk and dance in. I think it is possible I might change to other sandals later on in the evening. Definitely not going barefoot!

With the strappy shoes, I’d be careful to ensure not developing blister if you are going without hose; maybe get some
FabFeet to rub onto friction points to prevent painful blisters. I vote for the gold strappy shoes.

Ditto the comfort. No one is really going to care about what you wear on your feet. If they do, they certainly lack a life of their own. Be sure those heeled sandals are worth wearing several hours- with the lack of support because of straps they may cause problems. I never wore heels higher than those and have gone to flat shoes. Indulge in being old enough not to have to pay attention to the fashion gods.

I wouldn’t wear black in summer. I would wear nude, or the 2nd pair of gold. It seems less shiny, I think as long as your dress has gold running through it you would be fine. I’d stay away from shiny gold or champagne though, stay with more of a matte.

Agree with @conmama. I like a lighter shoe in the summer.

I meant I like champagne color, not stay away from it.

Go for the gold!

In general, I am like @abasket in feeling like gold is a little flashy for me. But I want to be a little fancier than usual and I see so many of the MOB type dresses shown with gold or silver shoes so I’m thinking of trying gold and I’m glad to get the encouragement from all of you here. I just don’t dress up often enough these days! All I know is that I don’t love high heels or very bare sandals and I usually like some sort of strap or I fall right out of shoes.I think lighter colored shoes would look more summery.
The Clark’s also comes in a lighter color but not gold:

I wish I had been able to find more shoes to try on when I went out shopping. (Hated the ones I tried.) I still feel strange ordering a lot of things I’ll just have to return. How many pairs do you order from zappos at once, you online shoppers?

Can you post a link to the dress? I think black shoes with royal blue dress will look too dark. How bright is the gold? If it’s not a bright gold, look for a muted metallic sandal like this:

Block heels are very comfortable, by the way.

Or, often a platinum metallic is nice - somewhere between gold and silver:

This is nice in the darker metallic, and also looks great in nude patent:

I also want to add that I completely disagree with almost everything @wis75 just wrote! It’s about looking your best and feeling that you’re dressed appropriately for the occasion. There is nothing wrong with caring about fashion - and it’s certainly possible to match comfort with style.

@Gourmetmom I like the darker metallic of the stewart weitzman. That’s a very pretty shoe. I wish it had more straps on the front of the foot because I think my feet are ugly! I like the first one (sam edelman) you posted a lot as well. Too bad they didn’t have that when I was at Nordstrom last week!

I think the block heel is promising, feels a little more stable than the skinnier ones.

thanks for these suggestions. I want to be comfortable but I also want to look special!

I like the first three. I don’t think black is a wise option.

From a fashion standpoint (at least, according to the top-notch tailor who altered my MOB dress), you don’t want your shoe to show. Your dress should skim the ground. I am tall enough that I didn’t have any hem to let out on my MOB dress. I had to look high & low to find a cute, comfortable pair of silver sandals that were the right heel height for my royal blue dress … and believe me, it did look best when I put on a shoe that allowed the dress to just hit the ground.

@orangepurple . I’ve ordered 8 pairs from Zappos at one time. No problem. They know me at the UPS outlet here…

I’ve ordered up to a dozen shoes at a time from Zappos and sent them all back as none fit mom properly. I have never had problems, as long as they are undamaged and resalable. They sent the label you slap back on the box after you’ve repackaged it.
