Mobile Phones

Hi.
I was wondering whether mobile phones from other countries will work here in the USA. All the latest phones today are quad band .
I am from India…
Kindly reply

well u shud anyways get a mobile handset frm the operator itself … u dunt need to get ur own handset to USA frm INDIA

SM

lefty, No.

GSM Handsets in Europe and Asia operate at 1800MHz, while in USA they operate at 1.9GHz…Americans are weird in that sense.
Also, America is probably the only country where most cells are CDMA…maybe its that they like being different or maybe they like more privacy during convos…

Indian mobile phones do work in the U.S. provided they are tri-band or higher versions. Its always better that you might carry the same instrument from India but buy a new sim card in the U.S. There are many GSM operators there like Cingular and Sprint. But the cheapest I have found is Skype. Indian CDMA mobile apart from Reliance donot work as such.
