I am getting ready to scream. I know it must have been something I did, but CC has “forgotten” me. I have to log in every time I come on board. I keep checking off the “remember me” button. My password is gone and so now I have one of those delightful 7 digit numbers which I can’t possibly remember. I re-registered to get one of those 7 digit passwords, which I guess I should somehow change to something I can actually remember, but how do I do that? And is that the key to the forum “remembering” me so that I don’t have to constantly sign in? This all started yesterday when I decided to try logging in from another computer in the house. Big mistake. Take pity on me. ;)

mom: What browser are you using? Network Explorer, or Firefox, or what?

Firefox, weenie. And when I went to post a reply, the message came up, “You are not logged in, momof3sons.” So, I had to log in again. But this really did start when I attempted to log in using another computer in my house and it didn’t “remember me.” Coincidence? Firefox? I’ve been using Firefox for a long time without this problem.

The blind leading the blind…

How about going on the other computer and erasing all the remembered stuff? (Under “tools” either under “options” or just right there “clear private data?”)

Then make sure on your computer you have the right settings under that same place. I have a new version of Firefox and it changed where these settings are - but basically look under tools then options then either security or privacy and make sure you have checked the box that says “Remember passwords for sites.” Look at all those settings to make sure they make sense.

You know this is going to sound really stupid to some people but how do you do a quote. I cant seem to get it to work. I also use firefox and had some issues with the password and constant logging in myself.

On the quote issue i tried highlighting the part i want to quote and clicking on rpely and checking the box that says quote message in reply. Nothing happens, well a couple times I get an error saying I cant do that but i think it was more of the log in issue there.

I forgot to tell momof3: to change your password go to “My Control Panel” at the top of the screen here. One of the choices there is changing the password.

Chuck:

There might be a new way to do the quotes, but for me I just type a bracket [ then the word “quote” spelled out without the quotation marks and make sure there are no spaces then you put the other bracket ].

So, it looks like this - but take out all the spaces:

[ quote ]

Copy and paste whatever it is your trying to quote. At the end of the sentence you put in a bracket [ then a slash thing / then the word quote again and then the other bracket ]. So, it looks like this - with no spaces:

[ / quote ]

OK?

Here are the other ones you can do (again, take out the spaces):

bold [ b] and [ /b]
italics [ i] and [ /i]
underline [ u] and [ /u]
quote [ quote] and [ /quote]

Momof3sons, check your cookie settings. It sounds like you might be blocking the cookie CC requires to keep you logged in.

Practice- sorry

Cool. Thank you. have to try one more.

Here are the other ones you can do

Still dont know what it means to click"quote message in reply" box.

CC ‘remembers’ you by reading the ‘cookies’ (bits of info pertaining to a particular website) stored in your browser on a particular computer. This means that if you use a different browser or a different computer you’ll have to login again because CC won’t find your cookies. It’s also possible that the browser is set to not store cookies on that computer or someone is clearing the cookies (i.e. clearing all the personal information) between your uses. Any of these things would cause the problem you’re seeing.

Thanks weenie, fireflyscout and ucsducladad,
I think I have figured out how to reset my password as instructed. I am back to using my “regular” computer which no one else uses. I have not cleared any cookie sor changed the setting on the browser. At least not knowingly. If I want to check those settings, please remind me how to do that. (My techie college S is not home, alas.) thanks again!

On Firefox go to ‘Tools’ then ‘Options’ then ‘Privacy’ then:

Make sure the ‘Always clear my private data…’ checkbox is not checked.
Make sure the ‘Accept Cookies’ checkbox is checked and that the box indicates ‘Keep until they expire’.

momof3sons–
this has been happening to me too, and it never used to. I have to re-log on throughout the day, even though the computer has been left on. I haven’t adjusted settings for cookies, either.

Maybe post this over in the “Community & Forum Issues” place? There might be some threads about this already…

Thanks again to ucsducladad, weenie and especially lsfp72,
I checked my firefox settings and none have been disturbed. They are still set to accept cookies, etc. I see that I am not the only one with this problem all of a sudden and will take weenie’s advice to post in the Community & Forum Issues.

I have had the same problem for months. I used it to break my habit of coming to CC and it worked.

lizschup, I can see how this would break my “habit.” I’m not ready to break it yet, though.
I have posted this issue, as suggested, in the Community and Forum Issues space and other people clearly have the same problem. I’m hoping that one of the CC tech administrators will check this out.

Apologize for this “bump,” but I have received no reply from an administrator in the Community and Forum Issues space. The problem persists and I have encountered two other forum members who have experience the same problem. The computer is set to receive cookies, I keep checking off “Remember Me.” Any other techies with an idea? Much appreciated.

momof3sons,
Did you see the stickie note from the mod in Community Forum Issues? The mod gave a step by step solution to the problem - it involves looking for a very specific cookie. Hmmm, good news bad news for me though - now I have to rely on self control.

Thanks lizschup,
I had noticed that this morning but wasn’t sure that it was describing a solution to the problem I was having. However, upon further review…I think I’ll try that!
