Moisturizers/eye creams?

The skin under my eyes has gotten real tight and dry on the last few days. I’ve been switching eye creams and moisturizers and I think I had a reaction to something. Unfortunately I’m not sure which one caused the problem.

Can anyone recommend a good gentle moisturizer that doesn’t irritate the eye area? Preferably one that doesn’t cost a fortune!

Not specific for eyes, but it is what my dermatologist suggested: Cera Ve PM. Sold at drug stores, Amazon, etc.

I use a Cera Ve product also – a very thick cream. (Don’t remember the exact name.) Very good stuff.

Here it is: https://smile.amazon.com/CeraVe-Moisturizers-Moisturizing-Cream-Ounce/dp/B001V9SXXU/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1489835727&sr=1-1&keywords=cerave

I recently had a reaction to an undereye moisturizer. Now I only use Cera Ve lotion. It seems to be just as effective as the fancy moisturizers, I didn’t know they also have a PM version.

My dermatologist recommended Cerave also.
I currently use something by clinique that’s a serum.
Just yesterday I read about a Clarins eye product that was considered “the best” by some measure, but I think it was over 80 bucks.
I got a terrible reaction around my eyes when I tried to use retin a (I wasn’t putting it near my eyes, but it must have gravitated there somehow).

I’ve used unrefined coconut oil for decades. It smells amazing, has antibacterial/antifungal properties, and you can buy it in the food section at Walmart in a big tub. I slather myself in it from head to toe in the wintertime. It works better than any expensive stuff I’ve tried, and I’ve tried some really expensive stuff! (like La Mer).

I also use CeraVe PM since reading recommendations on an earlier CC moisturizing thread. I’ve had very good results.

I bought, and was going to try, coconut oil because a co-worker swears by it as a moisturizer and it smells delicious, but I chickened out when I read a few articles that said it could cause breakouts in some people. Other articles said it can clear breakouts. I never tried it, but didn’t want to risk it.

^^Well, you can always use it to make cookies.

I’ve used coconut oil on my hair but haven’t tried it on my face.
My present dermatologist recommends rosehip oil for night and Argan oil for day. I haven’t had a problem with breakouts from either of them. I use them under the eye as well as on face and neck. I also use a Vit C serum before applying the oil.

I like this Mario Badescu chamomile eye cream. It’s light but rich and doesn’t make me break out.

@VeryHappy – the one you posted is the one I use as my heavy-duty hand cream! So, PM for under eyes, some other Cera Ve for remainder of face, and that tub for hands, and yet another (Cera Ve Renewing SA cream) for bottom of my feet. Good thing they are all relatively inexpensive as I seem to be fully committed.

Costco stocks the one you linked and it used to be sold with a pump, which is very convenient.

@1214mom – I use Retin-a at night under my eyes and full face nightly, more or less, but when I first started using it, I could only apply once/week. Really had to build up a tolerance for it.

Yes, I either buy my refills at Costco or from Amazon, and I have the pump. It’s great – really thick.

I use a retinoid also – not the same nights I use the Cera Ve – and, IME, if you’re careful it doesn’t irritate. I use it for two, maybe three nights in a row, and then take a few nights off during which I use the Cera Ve. I have to be extremely careful about using an SPF 50 on my face when I walk the dogs, however or I look like a cherry popsicle.

Have tried several, and my favorite is Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Resist 24 Intensive Eye Cream. Can be found at Amazon and other places.

I use a Vitamin C eye serum from Serious Skincare.

My dermatologist recommends CeraVe.

I am starting to think that the Cera Ve reps have gotten to all the dermatologists!

My dermatologist, my mother’s (same state, different town) and my sister’s (another state) all recommended Cetaphil, but I went with the CeraVe.

I use Cetaphil for cleansing, but Cera Ve for moisturizing.

For those of you using the cerave moisturizer, I have some of that but have always thought of it as a hand and body moisturizer. It’s ok to use on your face?
I have also noticed that my skin seems extra dry so recently I changed my cleansing routine. I had been using cleansers that were more appropriate for younger skin. I am now trying out a 3 in 1 sensitive skin cleanser by Vichy that is richer and more moisturizing than what I was using before and a cleanser by La Roche Posay that is formulated for sensitive skin and is also moisturizing. I have noticed a big difference, my skin feels a lot less dry. Also trying out a La Roche Posay moisturizer that is really nice.

Cera Ve has gazillion different products. So pick one that is intended for use on your face.
