Lilly Pulitzer?

I found a great dress for niece’s graduation but I didn’t buy it because a little voice in my head told me I’m too old for that brand.

What do you think?

I found a great dress for niece’s graduation but I didn’t buy it because a little voice in my head told me I’m too old for that brand.

What do you think?

I think it depends on the length. If it reaches the knee and the fit is good, then why not? I wouldn’t do strapless or eyelet, but the rest of the styles are fair game IMHO.

OK. Thanks.
This one had straps. No eyelets or cut-outs. Almost knee length, but not quite.

Here in South Florida, Lilly is worm by any age, including your mom and grandmother. If the style says mom and not teen or college coed, your fine.

No age limit in my neck of the woods either.

I agree that it’s for all ages and often seen on the older set. And hey, nothing wrong with tasteful strapless if it looks good on you!

There are some Lilly patterns and styles I like and would wear and some I wouldn’t - but nothing to do with age. I think it’s a matter of personal taste and what looks good on you.

You are totally not too old for it if you liked it and felt it looked good on you. If you were too old for it, you wouldn’t have liked it!

Think of Bunny MacDougall on Sex & the City, a Lady of a Certain Age. You can totally see her in Lilly in Bermuda. And heaven knows Bunny would never do anything inappropriate.

Lilly is for all ages. Go for it.

Many of the Lilly dresses look great, personally I don’t have Michelle O’Bama’s arms so I go with sleeves :)

DougBetsy, saw some Lily Pulitzer dresses at Marshall’s yesterday. I thought they looked fine for a graduation “mom/aunt” dress. If you like it and you look nice in it, go for it!

I think length of dress makes a bigger difference as you get older. Just above or just below the knee is good. Anything short on an older woman just makes her look like she is trying to look too young–looks weird to me, like an obviously older woman with a skin tight face…

OK. Y’all convinced me. I’ll get it. It will be the tonic that helps me swallow next week’s birthday. (45!)

45! You’re a spring chicken, you can wear Juicy! Now that looks weird on a women of a certain age to me!

45 is young! As for clothes, as long as you like the way it looks and fits on you, go for it. I have worn boys’ clothes, men’s clothes, girls clothes, juniors clothes, maternity clothes while not pregnant, etc, etc. If it works, who cares what the source, size, etc are?

Only 45? Hey, that’s the new 30! Go for the dress if you like it, and get some cool “bling” to go with it. Happy birthday!

I don’t really care where my clothes come from if they look good and appropriate on me. I have some BCBG dresses, Bebe pencil skirts, Express pants and shirts, and even a Juicy swimsuit (!), all bought upon recommendations from my D (who’d never recommend anything “scandalous” for her parental unit, LOL).

I beg your pardon, BunsenBurner, but 50 is the new 30. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.

I’m never giving up Lilly. In fact, I have already started dressing more loudly each summer and only plan to continue. 40 years in the future, I’m going to attend my grandchildren’s college graduations in a blinding hot pink/lime green print maxi skirt with a hot pink blouse and sun hat to match. I’ll be too old for anyone to dare say anything and I can finally wear the colors I truly love!

I can’t wait.

oopps, VeryHappy, you are right, thanks for correcting me!
