Moms - How old is too old for

So I clicked on the link and saw some very pretty dresses, but no where did it tell me what fabric they’re made of. Did I miss something??

Mom? Is that you?

My 16 year old is a flamingo freak and Lily typically has flamingo patterned clothes. She goes into the Lily store to visit them, but never buys them…to her they are either little girl or great grandma.

I’m “post 45” and would wear the Lilly. Go for it.

You can always ask yourself, WWMW (What Would Michelle Wear?). But alas, like Singersmom, I don’t have the arms for the sleeveless look either.

I hold the line at anything that a “real housewife”, as from those reality series, would wear.

Great thread. I swear by my new bible “Style Evolution” for what to wear (and NOT to wear) over 40. She addresses Lilly in it: “Aging…florals anywhere but a garden party or luau, palm beach florals anywhere but very casual or resorts, no girlie pastel prints”.

WWMW… I love it!

I just need to get myself motivated to work out, at the moment I am also a member of the “cover my upper arms” club.

Ladies, you are all only 3 months away from Michelle arms if you are not very overweight! My trainer says women come to him with her pictures asking for those arms. I’ve suggested he do a ‘right to bare arms’ video.

‘right to bare arms’??! That’s a good one!

but 3 months? Really? I am not overweight by much, but since turning 50, excuse me, 30, I seem to be adding some heft to my upper arms (as well as acquiring a spare tire just under my belly button). I’ve just joined a gym, so wish me luck. September is still warm enough for the sleeveless look, I’ll shoot for then.

My favorites:
-Twyla Dress Silk Cotton
-Andover Dress Printed
-Driscoll Dress Printed

Dougbetsy: Which dress did you like?

Credit goes to Mr. Obama, or one of his speech writers anyway.

It’s this one:[“Lilly Pulitzer” Morgan Dress Printed Slub at Lilly Pulitzer](<a href=“http://www.lillypulitzer.com/Women/Morgan-Dress-Printed-Slub/invt/71221&bklist=invt,5,colone,,womens,womensdresses]"Lilly”>http://www.lillypulitzer.com/Women/Morgan-Dress-Printed-Slub/invt/71221&bklist=invt,5,colone,,womens,womensdresses)

That’s definitely OK for those of our age.

A store in my neighborhood has as its window display now a collection of vintage Lilly Pulitzer dresses from the 60s and 70s. Brings back memories. They have a big sign saying that they’re not for sale; everyone wants them.

That’s a very pretty dress…it doesn’t scream ‘Lilly!’ but has her quality and stylishness. If you still feel ambivalent, take a trusted friend along for a second opinion.

Oh, my lord. I (in my fashion ignorance) cliicked on the links to see what we were talking about. Very pretty dresses…but those prices? How *could *anyone young afford them?

I know what you mean, garland. I couldn’t justify anything $300+.

But, I can rationalize < $300 for a special occassion dress, especially if I know I’ll get multiple occassions out of it. For example, I’ve got niece’s graduation, H’s boss’s wedding brunch, and Aunt Candy’s 60th birthday this summer. If I can wear that one dress to all 3 occassions, it’s only $90 each. Much easier to swallow. ;)

Pretty dress, but seems very fitted. I think it should be worn by a slimmer than average figure. And that white band across the bottom will call attention to the legs, so your gams must be good!

Having crossed the 45-year divide and moved into my fifties, I have to warn you that your weight will inexplicably shift to your hips in a few years. If you are thinking of getting multiple years out of a dress, the dresses with a more flowing skirt will work better than this one. But style-wise, I think this is lovely for all the occasions you mentioned, and easy to change up with a jacket.

VeryHappy, she uses natural fabrics so most everything is cotton or a silk cotton blend. Maybe some linen thrown in.

DB, That’s a great dress. Navy and white just never goes out of style for summer.

Of course, it’s a little subdued for my tastes ;)

Pretty dress and downright conservative! No worries.

Gosh ladies, I’m surprised about the comments on what will happen post 50. Most of the stereotypical things don’t need to happen at all. It’s a little more work to keep fit as we get older, but I know many 60 year olds as slim and shapely as their daughters.
