If your musical hay day was early ‘80s and before, you’ll love “Drops of Jupiter”. Just an incredible song, and performed so well. It becomes even more powerful when you know that lead singer Pat Monahan (from Erie, PA) wrote it about his Mom after she passed. And that the “permanent scar” he references is the one on his own chin. It’s a beautiful song and very moving, sung with passion and feeling. Following the images he paints becomes kind of a spiritual journey. There’s a great video on YouTube.

I was shocked. I had earlier (earlier than the cause of death was released) read a statement by her father that she’d been living on the street on and off for years.

I saw Footloose 7 times at our local discount theater- I was obsessed. The soundtrack was :fire: and I’ve loved her ever since.

My uncle was a successful high school girls basketball coach in the 60’s and 70’s, into the early 80’s. He told me once that "It’s a Heartache” was his favorite song, because of the heartache of losing at the state tournament so many times. So when I was in high school I bought him that album and my dad had me do my night time practice driving to take it to him before I got my driver’s license. (The uncle lived about 45 minutes away).

My husband has had a crush on Bonnie Tyler as long as I’ve known him (40 years) and has a 18 foot wall filled with her posters and records in our house. He will be in mourning for a while.

RIP Bonnie Tyler.

Did he ever get to meet her? I’m guessing he made it to many concerts? I showed my H - he was quite “impressed” - lol.

Me, too! Especially since I grew up in a similar church. The movie came out when I was a college senior, a year before I met my future husband and “escaped.” I already knew I wouldn’t keep going to that church forever. I watch it every couple of years.

No he didn’t get to meet her. (I’m not sure he would want to meet an idol) but yes we went to many concerts especially when we lived in UK. We only saw her once in the USA.

Funny you say that. I have a friend who idolized Stevie Nicks. His wife encouraged him to pay $$$$ to go to some benefit concert many states away and actually get to meet her. I think maybe her dad was involved somehow. In any case, she wasn’t at all what he expected, and “meeting” may have been something like saying “hello” from behind some kind of rope. He stopped liking her so much after that.

I have had Holding Out for a Hero in my head for the past several weeks!

It’s very strange how the image you create about people are seldom reality. I have no desire to meet my idols either. Just admire their talents from afar.

But it IS lovely when you meet “famous people” whose talents you admire and they do match or surpass your expectations.

I love to meet my favorite authors. They almost always turn out to be lovely people in person!
