It snowed all day in the Portland area, which he must have traversed to get to Camden. Accumulated about 5-6 inches. They are forecasting desultory snow most of Saturday, probably nothing to worry about. clear day Sunday, and another more significant snow on Monday. I’ve heard everything from 5 inches to a foot.
He told me it was a mix of rain/snow on the highway through Portland. No travel issue at all. Really didn’t slow below 70 mph until he got to Brunswick. My BIL who works in Augusta said there was more snow inland because it was colder, and never rained.
@thumper1, your husband must have been traveling a different time than I was! I drove down through Portland at 11 am. It was pretty messy. Traffic was going about 50 mph.
We got all snow north just north of Portland. I think Portland recorded about 5 inches officially.
I’m in Brunswick and husband works for the City of Portland and is moving snow as I write. I’m feeling a bit of snow fatigue, not to mention cabin fever. The dog is loving it though!
SE PA here. We’re supposed to get 3-6", but my favorite weather guy just posted that it will be warmer than originally thought, so we are in for some ice as well. Yuck!
But just a little further north (north of the turnpike is how they qualify it) folks could get 6-12".
If it’s a choice between the two evils, I’ll take the higher snow accumulations over the change to ice.
Central CT, actually most of CT, is forecasted to get 8-12", but once again they’re not really sure of the exact track of this storm yet. I’m not sure what I hate more, all the snow or the bitterly cold weather we’re getting now and for most of the next week.
My area of NJ is going to get about 2 inches. My house is within 200 yards of the exact geograhpic center of the State. (Based on some reports I have heard). I just googled that and what is reported now says 5 miles SE of Trenton. I am 25 miles SE of Trenton. Looking at a map I think 25 miles SE of Trenton looks more centered than 5 miles
My son is leaving for his study-abroad semester Sunday night. He flies out of O’Hare. I have already talked to the airline and they said if the storm is as predicted, the flight will cancel. So I am thinking about rebooking him for Monday and taking the pressure off.
@entertainersmom, nice to “meet” another local resident! I love Brunswick. Wonderful town. It always kills me when people from away on CC describe Bowdoin as being a rural school in the middle of nowhere. (Very pretty dog, too. )
@MaineLonghorn and @thumper1, when I drove in to pick up H just before 7pm, things were a lot clearer. And if he was on I-95, that can be quite different also.
At the moment, Sunday looks like by far the best driving day. The thing about Monday is that not only is it going to be snowing, but the high temp is supposed to be about 8F. Could be icy. A few weeks ago they closed 295 between Falmouth and Yarmouth because of ice. Argh. Other than that, obviously he knows how to drive in snow, and although it might be a slower trip, I’m sure he would be fine.
NW CT here. The worst part about this forecast is I need to go to the grocery store. I’m trying to figure out if there even is a best time to go. Probably not.
